I had bare minimum during the last part of the dark years; but now starting to slowly build again. Weapons & ammo bought cheap and then stored seem a good idea all around as previously discussed. Sorry to hear sales are slow for the smaller shops but hey, work on volume not profit per piece. The alternative was nothing but bad.

Drill Here, Drill Now |
So far 0 guns and 80 rounds of hunting ammo. I've been mainly buying low dollar accessories (e.g. Butler Creek lens caps, brass cleaning jags, etc) to compliment last year's high dollar purchases (eg. Colt LE6920, enough ammo to bulk up the UPS guy, etc). It should be obvious to anyone who gets emails from companies like Brownells, Natchez, Midway (to a lesser extent), and the major ammunition vendors. Not a day goes by without my learning about discounted prices on products or free shipping, no hazmat fees, etc. Even Safariland has been offering discounts on holsters and gear. I certainly don’t want a return to what we were experiencing a year and less ago, but I do hope that all these companies can hold on through a lean period. I don’t feel the least bit bad about paying higher prices prior to the election, but now with full shelves and a lifetime supply of the guns I shoot most frequently, I cannot justify continuing to support the industry at this time. “I can’t give you brains, but I can give you a diploma.” — The Wizard of Oz This life is a drill. It is only a drill. If it had been a real life, you would have been given instructions about where to go and what to do.

There are multiple factors at work here, most all related to politics. In addition to the election results reducing panic buying, many distributors and dealers over-stocked, particularly in black guns, expecting a Hillary victory . I personally, have bought two guns since the election but then I have a problem

I'd buy a couple more NFA suppressors but I'm not into waiting a year and giving people a grand to do it for a product. Once the HPA goes through suppressor sales will skyrocket the demand for these is much higher, the patience of waiting isn't. I just haven't seen anything come to market that moves me to buy a new gun yet, I go and look, other than the Ruger Mk 4 with a threaded barrel they are impossible to find and overpriced if you do, if I want another 3 I can get it anywhere at a discount. Maybe an AK, but I'm not itching that bad, ammo is what I'm buying...

This is similar to my personal situation. I am very well stocked on ARs, 5.56 ammo, and magazines leading up to the recent elections. It'll take very good prices for me to purchase right now, like the recent July 4th deal of windowed sand PMAGs for $9.99. If .22Lr got down to $0.04, brass-cased 9mm down to $0.15, and brass-cased 5.56 down to $0.25, I'll be hard pressed to pass on that. I also have a lot of money into NFA items waiting to clear. My priorities right now: 1. training; 2. preparing hosts for suppressors; 3. get into the long range game since a 1,600-yd range just opened 10 minutes from where I live; 4. reloading for that hobby; 5. and finishing my three AR builds. I can appreciate the difficulties that players in the gun industry are experiencing right now, but it's very nice, from a consumer standpoint, not to have the politic pressure to purchase after 8 years of it. I think in the next couple years I'll start up again in preparation of the 2020 elections. I just needed this breathing room.

Hey, if its slow for the dealers, here is something to ponder, get shit in that people want. I paid the inflated prices through several anti gun political seasons. FFL stood there laughing as he stuck it to his customers. I could spot a rare S&W box all the way across the store. He knew it to. Reading and knowing your customer base. Oh looky, from 30 feet away, its a 52 Masters. He'd say, I'm getting it out of the safe now. Get in things that will sell.

Like others, I spent a good chunk of my disposable income during 2016 (actually starting in Fall 2015) stocking up on ammo and magazines, to the detriment of some repairs that were needed around the house. Now that the immediate threat of new restrictions is reduced, those other things are taking priority. I do have a couple of items on my gun-related wish list, but now I have the ability (and need) to move slowly on them.

To me it is no downside, it is an "upside" to me to feel a bit of relief from the relentless Draconian attack from the left. As for anyone in business you need to operate effectively and efficient in your business. If you are relying on the political climate changes (no pun) to run your business then maybe you need to reevaluate. Just sayin'.

Next year will be my 20th in this industry. What we are experiencing now is a return to normal, combined with the slow summer months. I'll take normal any day over Obama. My feeling on the NFA market is that Silencerco poisoned the well a bit. Their massive advertising campaign for the HPA permeated into the noggins of Joe Blow consumer. Possibly good for the long-term, but for now, it sucks. IF HPA passes, and that is a huge IF, just try to get a suppressor in the days and months after, it will be like getting ARs or ammo after Sandy Hook. Prices will be super inflated, etc. etc.. The time is going to pass anyway, might as well have paperwork in the system, and take advantage of the cheap prices, and/or rebates from the MFD's.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ DING DING DING!!!!! Ditto here yesterday. Chicken dinner to you, sir! I'd have to buy a new safe if I bought anything else. Some might say that's a tough 1st-world problem to have. Yup.....it suuuuuuure is! And I'm with choang...I'd rather spend my $$ on training. If I save up for anything that requires safe storage, it'll be for an MPX. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Chalk it up to recent CA laws passed. Yes, nationally there is a slow down in purchases, resulting in better pricing for the consumer. But CA FFLs and retailers have a bigger problem with perhaps the most restrictive laws on the books. You can't sell most modern day centerfire rifles to citizens anymore. Same with most of the popular handguns on the market. And pretty soon, ammo sales will be a clusterfuck. My long time FFL, after decades in business, just shut his doors this year. CA laws had a big part in his decision.
