Since we've been discussing a number of vehicles lately, I thought I'd throw the 2022 Ford Maverick out here for discussion as well. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on and watching some early reviewer videos, and the little truck(?) looks intriguing to me. I think it's coming to market at a very advantageous time given the runaway pricing of new trucks across the board and the differing demographics for truck buyers. Personally, I'd have zero interest in the hybrid version with a CVT and front wheel drive, but the regular 2.0L turbo with an eight speed and AWD looks interesting. And given that 2.0L has been in the Ford Focus ST (as well as other Ford models) over the last few years, there's a whole warehouse of aftermarket 'go fast' goodies that could find their way under the hood without much issue. Given I've reached a point in my life where I won't really be hauling or towing much anymore, I really don't want to shell out $50k+ for a new full sized truck, so I'm thinking something like this might fit my needs a bit better. And given the relatively low buy in pricing, I could afford to add a bit of aftermarket upgrades to it to make it mine, and still not be $40k deep into a new vehicle, even starting with a fully loaded version. From what I've already read, it appears the aftermarket is embracing it with open arms, so there should be a bunch of goodies for it.

So the question is, will it be a success or a bust for Ford?

Everyone at FORD that agreed to resurrect the Old Maverick name and slap it on a new FORD should be fired.
How about a new PINTO model with a fireball paint scheme?
How about a Edsel model, they would only have to make one. Hopefully they could sell that one.

Maverick ST looks good, if I fit then it would fit. Agreed the shortage of pickups on lots and super high prices puts me off when looking at $100K Suburban's and $80K F150's.

Got in and out of a few Rangers, hurt my hip the angle of egress and exit just twisted me wrong, tried several 2wd and 4wd it was the same, narrow doors..

Thought they should have put the Maverick name on the new E-Stang, it is a carish vehicle.

I still need to tow a bit, 19' boat or 12' single axle trailer. No further than a 100 mile trip tho. It looks like it would handle that okay. I might take a look when my full size RAM takes a dirt nap.

surprised to hear of the problem, my Ranger fits me perfectly, just step in, step out, no up, no down, no twist. Course I had just spent 11 years in a couple JK Wranglers, so nearly anything else would have more door access.

What I have a hard time wrapping my head around is when the chip shortage weakens and Ford has modules available to finish the thousands of trucks they've turned out partially complete, those vehicles, after sitting outside in the sun, rain, bird crap and exposure to other damage for months, are going to find their way onto dealer lots to be sold as 'new' vehicles at full retail pricing. Make it a standard cab (that will never happen!) and every tradesman and pest control enterprise would be all over it.

I believe the Maverick is already a success because of all the early demand. And if it proves reliable and durable that will continue. The 2wd base version at at around $24K with freight and floor mats hits a great price point (actually the base is $21K but comes so spartan even with no cruise that I don't even count it).

So $24K for a decently equipped 2WD, or $28K gets you the better motor, 8-speed, and AWD which would be my preference. Unfortunately the 4'-6" bed is too short to carry a small motorcycle even with the tailgate down but I thought I read somewhere that there might be a single cab version with a little longer bed in the future.

I like the idea of unibody and 4 wheel independent suspension for pick up trucks like this even up to the size of Ranger and Colorado.

I put in my order three weeks ago for a hybrid XLT. Under $27K, should get 38 MPG, and 1,500 lb. payload.

Good gas mileage will probably come in handy.

I hope it gets into production sometime soon, but my faith is weak.

I get it, I have 200k miles driven in my 2013 f150. There is no way I would spend nearly 74k to buy the same truck now. I love the truck don't get me wrong. I'll just keep doing the maintenance this one. The new trucks offer me nothing that mine does not have.

A little truck like the Maverick, that has possibilities.

A couple things. One, its not 2019 anymore. 2022 brings a whole new set of circumstances and metrics that didn't exist in 2019. Two, it still remains to be seen 'if' Ford can bring this thing to market successfully. I remain very cautious on that question given what we've seen of late out of Ford. And third, I may indeed be proven wrong on my original statement given how much the market for trucks has moved over the last 3+ years. Personally I hope I am wrong because I'd love to see the Maverick be successful given what it provides to the current market.

And no, I don't think Ford will market an ST, Raptor, or specialty version of the Maverick. However, I think the aftermarket is likely to fill that void nicely for those who want to mod their trucks.

Those little rubber band tires look silly as hell on a “truck.”

Honda has been making the Ridgeline for something like 20 years. Nice try Ford.

I was waiting for that comment. You are 100% right that the Maverick is simply another vehicle of the same flavor as the Ridgeline. However, compare the prices of the two. Even a base Ridgeline is way more expensive, way more feature rich, and ultimately, somewhat larger. Though these two vehicles are similar, I really don't see them competing for the same customers.

I'm interested in one. My 2018 F150 will be paid off soon. Might have to pre order one of these, really liking the possibilities.

I realize that Bigdeal. But after 20 Years one would expect the level of refinement would be significant for the Honda. My 2007 is probably some what of a comparison to what ford has got now. Both in what it is and what it cost back in 2007. I think I would keep my Honda if someone offered to take it in trade for the new ford.

I am looking forward to trying it on, to see if there's enough legroom in the driver's seat. Hoping that the interior arrangement does a better job of accommodating a long-legged guy than the current crop of intermediate size trucks.

I can't fit comfortable in those that I have tried: Tacoma, Ranger, Canyon / Colorado -- none of these have enough legroom in the driver seat for me.

My first used car in high school was a 1970 Maverick with a straight 6! Hope this is a better vehicle than that thing was!

From what I've read of the Ford marketing info for the Maverick, I really think they're positioning this thing to be as inexpensive as possible, sacrificing a lot of 'options' available on other vehicles to reach that price point. I don't think Honda has any interest in marketing a Ridgeline with that approach given that isn't really the market they want to sell in. Again, I think Ford has placed the Maverick in a unique position (either by plan or accident) at a unique time that might make it very attractive to a specific group of buyers. Time will tell....
