The fact of the matter is that past presidents and politicians have gotten us to this point. They sold out the American people with ‘free’ trade agreements that killed millions of American jobs. What Trump has to do now is necessary to the survival of this country.

The past politicians -and some still in office- have been bought and paid for by corporations, lobbyists and even foreign governments in a scheme to dump products here. It’s all about money and weakening the United States. What they have done is nothing short of treason. These paid ‘public servants’ are the lowest of the low.

Like someone who needs surgery to remove cancer: You have to go through the pain of the surgery to improve the health of the patient. And the United States is the patient.

I've had similar thoughts above. One thing important is that it's not just about the trade but the theft of intellectual property. The chicoms take a product and then copy it w/o regard to patents or IP or whatnot and then sell imitations on Prime or whatever. Sickening.

Honestly, this market dip isn't horrible for me. A YUGE portion of my portfolio is focused on dividends. And right now they're all set to DRIP. And the ex date for a lot of it was yesterday. So today is payday. But since the market is down, I should get a good bunch of stock in the re-invest.

It takes years for a president's economic policies to take effect so what we are likely seeing are the markets reacting to weak earnings data caused by Bidenomics.

I think it's true that policies can take years to take effect, but I believe the current drop is an over-reaction to the reporting of the reciprocal tariffs. As has been said, Trump is doing what's necessary for long term success for our country.

Vietnam is poised to get a lot of manufacturing that leaves China due to politics. Thailand and Malaysia as well. That means lots of exports to the U.S. And the citizens of these relatively poor countries can't really afford the cost of stuff made in the U.S. so it's not that big a deal to have zero tariffs on U.S. goods. Hopefully this applies to U.S. agricultural products because we can grow stuff cheaper than most anyone else.

This is beautiful. The up and comers see the opportunity to increase trade with the U.S. and become favored partners while the established countries are increasing tariffs in retaliation. China is like a spoiled child having a tantrum, raising tariffs even higher even though they are the world's largest manufacturer or cars, EV's, EV batteries, Solar Panels, Smart Phones, Computers, and on and on and on. They do not need any trade protection anymore.

I think it’s a ridiculous overreaction.

Keep the faith. It’ll come back. It always does.

It's just as with everything else these days. Ask the people who are "outraged" about the tariffs to explain the issues and 99.999% of them don't have the first clue. Orange Man Bad and the television told me I should be mad. Always the same. There is nothing which Donald Trump can ever do which will not cause the same reaction.

Even after sufficient time has passed for us to see the effects of the tariffs, these people will maintain the same trajectory.

I don't concern myself with the flailing about of idiots.

Folks just need to use their heads, and not emotions concerning these tariffs. Give things a bit of time, as Trump knows what he is doing.

I see there are a couple of new books coming out describing how Kamala lost the election. They look like marvelous finger pointing exercises. I won't buy them, but I am tickled by their view that Biden was befuddled, etc. As if no one knew it at the time. Eek

Indians can't catch a break.

Elsewhere, the yield on 10-year Treasuries is now about 4% vs about 4.6% on January 1. That's a signinficant savings in terms of interest on the national debt.

Example from ChatGPT:

$1 trillion of debt at 4.6% = annual interest cost of $46 billion. The same $1 trillion of debt at 4% = annual interest cost of $40 billion.

Some great news from SCOTUS though Justice Roberts disappoints again siding with the progressives. Roll Eyes

Seems like these corrupt judges are issuing rulings to try and force release of billions and billions of dollars of tax payer money so that they will never be recoverable.

Supreme Court allows Trump to halt millions in teacher training grants

https://www.scotusblog.com/202...her-training-grants/

The Supreme Court on Friday afternoon put on hold an order by a federal judge in Massachusetts that would have required the Department of Education to reinstate more than $65 million in grants that it terminated in February because they funded programs that included diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

In an unsigned three-page opinion, a majority of the court explained that the government likely would not be able to get the funds back once they were disbursed. Moreover, the majority added, the recipients of the funds would not be permanently harmed if the funds are withheld while the litigation continues.

The vote was 5-4, with Chief Justice John Roberts indicating that he would have denied the government’s request. Justice Elena Kagan dissented, calling the court’s ruling a “mistake.” Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, in an opinion joined by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, also dissented, writing that it was “beyond puzzling that a majority of the Justices conceive of the Government’s application as an emergency.”

At issue in the case are two grant programs intended to address a nationwide shortage of teachers. The Department of Education canceled all but five of the 109 grants after reviews found “objectionable” diversity and equity training material in the recipient programs.

Eight states, led by California, filed a lawsuit in federal court in Massachusetts in early March. They contended that universities and nonprofits in their states had received grants through the programs, and that the Department of Education had violated the federal law governing administrative agencies when it ended those grants.
