Yes. One was turning 25, the other 26.

Somehow I knew it. The younger people think they should get everything when just starting out.

I have seen young people that want 5 weeks vacation first year of a new job when they have little or no experience right out of college.

Sure, I'll give you 5 weeks vacation, but you'll get proportionally less pay. Wink

Really. Who cares? They have their vacation days to pick, and they picked their BD as one of the days. It's not like they screw their fellow employees with an extra off day.

Btw, I never have done it myself.

Same. I earn about a month of work days off a year between various leaves. I take a day or two here or there because they're mine to use.

I have never taken my birthday off that I can recall, either, unless it was coincidentally on a slow work day on the first or last day of the rotation.

I never have but I've noticed it's a thing. Ever since the company switched from the old "vacation" days and "sick" days model to just "paid time off" all rolled together, I've been happy! Offhand, I don't think I've ever taken a sick day in my life.

I'd have my birthday off perhaps if it fell on a Friday or if it also happened to be during a planned vacation...but never a la carte in the middle of the week, waste of a day off IMO.

No, but if you want to use vacation for that, why not?

Yes, I have taken the day off because it was my birthday, but normally I take it off because it falls during spring break and I work in higher ed, so there aren't classes going on anyway.

I don't remember the last time I took it off though, been a while... Confused

My employer gives us a birthday as a paid day off have to use it during the month your birthday falls on. Doesn’t necessarily have to be on your actual birthday
