Back to back Naismith player of the year. First time in over 40 years someone was back to back player of year (Ralph Sampson '81 to '83).

Rupp Rafters chat board makes for entertaining reading this morning. Let’s see what the Cats are saying now:

- Calipari is a “human pile of vomit.”
- Several posters won’t watch another minute of UK basketball until Calipari is fired.
- Someone is challenging any local UK fan to rent a moving van and park it in front of Calipari’s house.
- Calipari is an “unfaithful POS.”
- Calipari is a “washed up clown.”
- Tubby Smith left UK but Calipari is staying because Calipari is white. (I can’t follow that logic… but these are Kentucky fans.)
- The UK Athletic Director either is a POS, has no testicles, eats male sexual organs, has no brain, is in a relationship with Calipari, is a doofus, wears a cheerleading skirt while waiting for Calipari to get off the team plane… or a combination of the above.

,,, and yes, I am an Indiana fan. So I am biased in my reporting… and IU’s recent performance should preclude me from gloating over the misfortune of Kentucky fans.

But I can’t help myself!

I'll be surprised if Calipari survives with his job. If I were a KY fan (and I'm NOT) I'd be wanting a change. They (he) has way under performed the last several years at tourney time. I think part of it is the heavy reliance on recruiting the young "stars" who will go pro after the first year. Results in no experienced team members at tourney time.

He has a lifetime contract until he retires then becomes a full university ambassador for the remainder of his life.
It’s going to cost them an unbelievable amount of money to get rid of him.
Word is he has secured RIDICULOUS amounts of NIL money for the upcoming seasons.

I’d be very surprised to see him let go by UK.

Looks like Calipari was desperate to be out of the situation. Took a job at in conference rival Arkansas. Will be interesting to see who ends up at KY.

I’m not here to dump on the girls because their tournament has been very fun to watch this year but is there a sport that better demonstrates the genetic differences and capabilities more than basketball. It’s actually shocking if you watch back to back games.

I find the Caitlin Clark story to be very interesting. That being said I watched only part of the National Championship game. Anybody who thinks we are watching the genesis of women's sports as a viable revenue stream on a national level is nuts.

The women's game is not a great product. You can make the comment that it is a purer version of the game because the sheer athleticism of the men's game isn't present but that is it. It is a slow, ponderous game with a lot of missed layups, easy shots, and just generally not very exciting. Even the title game was kind of boring. Without the storyline of watching Clark there is zero chance I would have turned that game on. I was with my mother, sister, and nieces and none of them even knew why I was interested or was interested themselves. Congrats to an amazing season for South Carolina.

This isn't going to translate to financial success for the WNBA.

1s1k and pedropcola, you both speak the truth.

Incredible that Iowa got all the way to the championship game with no bench depth whatsoever. None of the Iowa women had any hops left in the 4th quarter it showed in their shooting. Reaching the National Championship playing only 5 either shows how dominant Caitlin Clark is, or how little talent there is in the women’s game (I suppose a bit of both).

Amazing what a little social media hype (marketing can do).

Just like Stanley Tumblers there is actually nothing special about them at all. Yet folks are crazy over them with no actual explanation.

Granted the list can go on and on.

I was surprised how late the game was as well. The game is in Phoenix so the tip off is 7:20 their time.

I'll confess that 9 times out of 10, I only watch the Final Four on Saturday night and don't tune in for Monday night's Championship game. This is the first time in my lifetime that Purdue has been in the Championship game.

Let’s go Purdue.

No dog in this fight but certainly have heard too much about UConn over the years.

Cal's time UK was going down fast over a year ago, why he got another year is money, $33 Million dollars worth. He lost his winning ability and the link to the fans in 2019 when he lost all his staff, the key guys that kept the team going and in touch with the real fan base left, Robic - X - O guy, Payne player relationships.

Cal cares about Cal, rumor is he was looking at Ohio State back in Feb, he became more about getting kids in the NBA than winning at UK. Apparent at the stupid "I got $8.5 trillion in earnings for kids in the NBA" before the Oakland game press conference. He does understand NIL and he's made to be a NBA mega star coach with a lot of other peoples money.

The key is the NIL money, and one of the big reasons CAL left, Tyson foods billionaire is putting up mega NIL money for him, and that's what CAL needs to succeed, he needs that fund to compete, and he'll really need it at ARK.

The interesting part will be who's going to come to UK now, lots of rumors, Billy Donovan, Scott Drew, Nate Oats, and the big one, Dan Hurley at UCONN, supposedly the UCONN boards are going nuts with fear he will leave, I'm not so sure.

Go Purdue!

Caitlin is an exciting to watch, exceptional athlete and was the reason for so many to follow the Hawkeyes. You folks must also understand that out here in the tall corn there is not a whole lot more to get excited about. She lifted the rest of the team to higher levels with her ball handling and assists in particular, but it was not enough against such a great team as SC. They had talent in depth which individually might not have been enough to overcome her skills but as a team was too much. It will be interesting to see what happens when she enters the pros. I wish her a good career, but most likely will not be watching the WNBA.

I don’t think Iowans drove the national interest in Caitlin Clark, she’s a legitimately great all-around player. What she did to generate interest in WBB was phenomenal. It will be interesting see if any of the numbers she generated will hold for next season, AND if she can similarly boost WNBA ratings. I suspect not on both counts.

Played sports even got a small college scholarship offer which i did not accept. I was ready to work once out of high school.
Have watched college and pro sports for years. Having gone to tons of games in person as well.

The girls basketball game has evolved over the several last decades. It is amazing how good the girls college game is these days. They are fantastic athletes. The plays they make and the speed of the game is unbelievable. to me it is a better game than the men's game.

I do not watch any pro bb games, women or men.

College, yes absolutely.

And no I hate where we are with college athletics. It politics.

I made the observation that I believe the winners of most states boys high school tournaments would beat the women's NCAA champion 99 out 100 times. They are to the point the can move the ball fairly well and can hit some 3's but you put a couple of guys like CJ Burns (even as he would have been as a HS Senior) and there is no way that the NCAA Women can stop that level of strength.

Hats off to UConn who kicked our butt tonight. Their pressure defense is something else and two of our guys usually combine for 24 only had 5.

Nonetheless, it was a fun season and the best Purdue team in my lifetime.
