It is just me but the new bsa and mormons kind of deserve each. Both concepts are weird as all get out if you ask me. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

No double standards |
Socialism is a parasite, it can't produce for itself but must feed on others to survive. And like a parasite, socialism, in time, will kill the host. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. IIRC, the LDS church charters about 1/3 of all U.S. scout troops. The impact to the BSA, or whatever it’s called, will be severe. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

So very true. ---------------- LDS has been working on leaving BSA for a number of years. LDS churns out Eagle Scouts, really it is the parents that earn the rank, I was on a trip with an LDS troop, 10-15 boys stood around while the dads cooked... - Girls joining BSA is really bad. Kids need a place where they can be kids without the boy - girl stresses etc... I'm really sad about this. I'm waiting for the collapse of this country. It is coming faster and faster. - Eagle Scout 1989 __________________________ My door is always open to Sigforum members, and I'm always willing to help if I can.

Trail Life USA has been growing for a while and seems to be taking the spot that was once occupied by Boy Scouts: http://www.traillifeusa.com .

Made from a different mold |
Never a boy scout, nor LDS, but it would seem that the correct headline would be BSA leave the LDS...because that is truly what is going on here. ___________________________ No thanks, I've already got a penguin.

According to the Foxnews article: The church has long been the biggest sponsor of Boy Scout troops in the United States, constituting around 19 percent of the 2.3 million youth in the organization, the Salt Lake Tribune reported. So it is just less than 1/5. Still a large percentage. This space intentionally left blank.

A slight distinction...The LDS charters more than a third of the BSA troops (37% in 2013) while making up about 18-19 percent of the individual membership. https://filestore.scouting.org...tore/pdf/210-807.pdf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._America#cite_note-1 “Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” - John Adams

As noted, here in Utah Boy Scouting is a BIG deal, and heavily supported by the Mormons. But in spite of the Mormon support, the Scouts was actually pretty non-denominational, and I know two non-Mormon Scout leaders with non-Mormon kids in the Scouts. They had been talking about separating for a long time, and I guess this was the breaking point. Good for them. I would rather send my son to the Mormon Scouts than to the Non-Binary Scouts (If I had a son ). "Crom is strong! If I die, I have to go before him, and he will ask me, 'What is the riddle of steel?' If I don't know it, he will cast me out of Valhalla and laugh at me."

As a member of the LDS church with kids I have held various positions in the Boy Scouts. From being involved, I saw this coming a long time ago. It seems to me it has a lot more to do with the LDS church wanting more spiritual experience for their youth rather than just scouting stuff. Boy Scout camps and other big activities are expensive for the parents and I think the youth in the church will be better off. But, I had a LOT of great experiences doing scouting stuff. The trip to the Boundary Waters was a great experience. Scouting is still a great program for young boys.

Move Up or Move Over |
The LDS churches in our area pay for every boy and girl of scouting age to be in scouts. The troop gets that money even if a particular child doesn't participate. This is in addition to the free facilities and use of church resources to facilitate trips etc. Most of my male Mormon friends are eagle scouts. It was a very big deal and fit in their service to others mentality well. I hate that this happened but the local churches have been preparing for a while. A few of the dads I know are upset their sons will not become eagle scouts breaking a tradition of some of multi-generational eagle scouts. Mark

Nature is full of magnificent creatures |
Growing up in the LDS Church in NJ, there were not enough boys for a Cub Scout den. I went to a den at a Lutheran Church. Most of the other Cub Scouts were members of the sponsoring Church, but I was always made to feel welcome. When I was older, there were, at times, people in our LDS BSA Troop who were not LDS. My Troop had kids from rough inner city neighborhoods, and kids from the suburbs. My experiences in Boy Scouts were the result of having great adult Scout leaders. Our leaders had real life experience in combat in Vietnam and in law enforcement. They made every boy feel loved, welcome, and an important part of the Troop. They were men of faith who taught us to be kind to others and believe in God. When we were with them, we learned to do good things that would serve us well later in life. I am grateful to separate from what the BSA has become, but I will always treasure the influence of the BSA and the BSA leaders of my youth.
