Not to be outdone by other dumb states, my fair Commonwealth needs to tamp down the recent mass shootings we've had here... oh wait there haven't been. Ok well they need to address gang violence and poverty.. O hell naw Chief, hammer lawful gun owners. Ridiculous. There are a load of new dogshit provisions, no "grandfathering," and anything not here in 1994, that previously complied with existing law would now be banned. Super. Currently the bill has language like "If it's in your house you can keep it." But you can't do anything but sell it out of state or have it destroyed. I would love to be able to pass my collection to my son, should he be interested. I can't do that, if he still lives here when he's of age. Dumb. Before this "news" broke, I'd been "reevaluating" my collection, selling some stuff. I haven't been on Gunbroker in years, and it remembered most of my transactions. A guy asked me if I had "Layaway." While I've done some business over time, it should be obvious I'm not an FFL, and while your local fun shop who knows you might do that.... Exactly who would do "layaway" over the web? I really hope, that this bullshit ends up in front of the Supreme Court, and gets told to fuck off. But who can say. I hear you. I left Washington in no small part because of that same stuff. They pushed the needle further in that direction this past year. People say “it’s coming to every part of the country,” and maybe that’s true, but I wasn’t born there so I didn’t feel a need to stay, and I can fight this battle from a more favorable position. It all needs to go to the Supreme Court. Sooner is better than later, for many reasons. ______________________________________________ Carthago delenda est

If I was single in my 20's I'd jet, even tho I grew up here. When I moved back, people were like... "why." Life is still more than guns. Who am I really mad at? The people I've talked to here who say "I don't care, I got mine." Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. I think the writing is on the wall, all these bullshit laws are going to eventually get flushed. In the meantime though, the grabbers are going to try and make it as painful as possible, throwing whatever they can and hoping some sticks, at least for a while. They're hoping it'll take 10 or 15 years to wind through the courts, maybe some judges friendly to their bullshit will get in, maybe it'll be long enough to shift the culture. Either way they're in a panic, and eventually I believe it will end badly for them, but in the meantime we're gonna bite the pillow while they go in dry.
Best be careful, Texas is looking more and more purple these days.

That was my thought, a living gun trust, son as a co-trustee or beneficiary. What if you give them to him and your house too, since they'd still be "in your house so he can keep it".... Shame that a state so involved in the revolution of the Colonies from England is so hell bent on curtailing the rights of it's citizens.

I'm considering a trust. It will probably happen. I've had several conversations now with non-gun folks, they can't be bothered. It's a shame that they don't see 2A rights for the linchpin they are. Worried about trans rights? Free speech? Pick any other right, and without the right to bear arms, the govt will remove your rights at its leisure. Bans don't work. Murder is illegal... "Gun violence" is a social problem, and they legislate away gun rights because they want to and the public also enjoys simple solutions. Woo. Trusts are not magical entities that are exempt from firearms laws. Laymen have some odd ideas about what trusts are and what they do. It is one thing I see popping up over and over. If it is like federal law, it is possession that usually matters, and that is independent of ownership. I don't have much confidence in the MA lege, but I bet they don't overlook any obvious loopholes that would allow trusts to own all the guns they want to ban. This message has been edited. It’s a loud and motivated minority. 51% of 55% turnout, at best most of the time, means ~28% of eligible voters decide things. 45% of voters don’t bother. I bet they like to complain

Whenever I hear of the apparent hostility to freedom in MA, I’m always struck by the irony that Lexington and Concord are located in the Commonwealth. How can you visit those sites, read about the Crown’s march against the militia’s supply of arms, and not see the irony? Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

No Shit...No one is suggesting that one could skirt the law on possession of firearm deemed illegal here! Not to worry though, none of us 'laymen' are getting any ideas. Curiously though, this layman notices that you, 'the professional' seem to be the one posting about an odd idea, that could potentially be popping up over and over, that has not been part of this discussion in any way! That said, a trust can be a way around the definition of a future 'transfer' depending on the laws in a particular state! Further, as you may be aware, a trust already changes how transfers of NFA items to beneficiaries are handled under federal law, so it IS a thing! This message has been edited. When this becomes law, which it will, because the Commonwealth is a one party state, and the Republicans in Massachusetts hold up like wet toilet paper, the domino effect will occur down the coast CT, NY, NJ, DE, MD and VA will follow suit, probably NH will have some Massachusetts transplants looking to adopt this legislation. This message has been edited. ^^^Surely, we have transplanted Massholes here right now that would like to adopt this legislation, especially in Cheshire County, Nashua, and out by the Seacoast, but we do have a Republican controlled Legislature, so Nope! ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Put them in a trust and have your wife and son on the trust. He can handle them when he is of age.

Prosperity, safety, and luxury. A whole lot of people in this state think they're fucking smart. They look at the relatively low crime rate, and think hey, the gun laws must be working. But oh we've got these other things the politicians are telling us about, and I don't need guns so I'm fine with it. ..... "Gun violence" is directly linked to poverty and joblessness. It does exist here, but in specific areas and demographics. MA is largely peaceful because of its economy, and the concentration of colleges, among other things mean the coast leans hard left. All of these people are content to ignore the history of the state, and its meaning. It's a huge moral masturbatory exercise to believe you've transcended violence. The DEI and police defunding... In time certain areas here will turn Portland or Frisco like.. Maybe. I fully expect this legislation to pass. IF my son is one day interested in these firearms, hopefully either this BS is struck down, or he lives elsewhere. Mistake Not... |
Without trying to be a jerk, it would be super helpful for us in the shitty states that somewhere like Texas or Alabama pass something like this so we can get in front of a division of the federal court that will accelerate this nonsense in front of SCOTUS. Until SCOTUS just rules on this issue, the shitty states are going to shit. The 7th and 9th divisions are slow walking this crap. ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Our 2A SCOTUS victories are a double edged sword. The left is empowered by them, they feel they have nothing to lose. (especially if elections don't quite mean as much as they once did.) They can throw anything at the wall and it will all stick, at least for a while. The worst that happens is several years and millions of dollars from now, they get overturned. Oh well, nothing lost but the peasants tax dollars.
