.......seems to become the war cry for poor customer service in retail establishments.

When I watch you stand around with your nose in Fakebook (all the while ignoring customers), you give up the right to plead your case on how you’re too busy due to being short handed.

My observation has been that the shorter a retail establishment is staffed, the less committed and motivated the remaining employees are. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

And none of the remaining employees seem to be able to become motivated by some overtime pay.

Most want to complain, rather use the opportunity to get ahead.

Small business owners understand your flustertration©. Do you understand theirs?

Try to find and hire people with good old fashioned work ethics for your own retail enterprise...

Its 2021. For a couple more months.

Things just have to get better.

Buddy of mine is in the pipeline repair industry. Tells me he can't keep unskilled labor worth a tinker's damn. Has people walk in the door with ZERO experience and ZERO knowledge about what his business does DEMANDING $25/hour. Sometimes ya just gotta shake your head.....

My wife and I travelled from PA to Utah via car earlier this year. On two consecutive evenings, the restaurants seated us with the warning they were short staffed.

One the first evening not only were they short staffed, every member of the working staff was clueless. Our waiter was too busy paying too much attention to me and, despite confirming my wife's order verbally, messed it up. He then ignored her. He didn't fix the mistake and no follow up water when her glass was empty. No tip for him. FWIW, she ordered the burger without the bun, not exactly a difficult order and easy for her to fix, but frustrating that he confirmed then ignored.

Second night, same warning different reason. The restaurant was hosting a Boy Scout dinner and the kitchen was slammed. Our waitress was excellent, and despite the warning, food and drink arrived in a timely manner with a smile and great attitude. She got a substantial tip.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

A local diner that we frequent is having staffing issues . The owner had hired a lot of High school and College age girls and a number of them moved on after graduating . The ones that are left are working hard to keep up . She just can't find anybody that want's to work . She even ran an ad offering to give a $100 gift card to anybody that referred someone that stayed for 3 months , and another $50 if they stayed another 3 .

I think that any job that can’t support the American dream (house, or nice apartment) is going to have a hard time finding staff. Those workers spent the last 1-2 years doing something else due to government decree. If there’s little or no difference between working a 40 hour week and welfare, why would people work a shit job?

Ah yes, the American dream! The one that became a HIGHTMARE with the rise of housing and food prices. The government DID NOT jack the price of housing into the stratosphere, ranchers and farmers are not rolling in cash, but the buyers and resellers are doing very well at the expense of consumers. So why not minimize your purchases and fulfill the Adam Smith principles of Capitalism or do you really need all the toys?

I’m feeling it now. We had a minor car accident last Thursday night. I called my insurance company Thursday night to report, then again Friday morning to start the claims process. I was told an adjuster would contact me the same day (Friday).

Since then, despite two more calls, nothing but crickets.

Yep, don’t have to like it, but the Marxists got their dream. They trained half the country to be dependent over the last two years. Jobs that don’t pay significantly more than welfare are going to have trouble with staffing.

My Daughter is a Restaurant manager. She was working in LA when the pandemic hit. We wanted Her home here in Chicago while the pandemic played out. She left her property in LA, in storage, and came home.
The Company she worked for eventually sent her to work at there Miami location, she HATED Miami. after several months they transferred her to Dallas, she worked there several months before they sent her back to LA to re-open that restaurant.
During the per-reopening she became disillusioned with the Company management and quit.

She looked for new employment in LA and found employers tripping over each other to hire Her as a GM.
Apparently people from the Chicago/Midwest are the cream of the crop for employers in California. The work ethics that come from the Midwest are unheard of in California.

She is a sommelier and wanted to get more into that area of the restaurant business, She drove to Napa and applied at several places, all offered Her a job on the spot. She ended up with a job as a GM at a 5 star, Michelin rated restaurant/winery in Napa. They gave Her $5000 travel bonus and a $20,000 raise over what she was making in LA.

It irritates me when customer service says "I'm sorry". It only gets them off the hook and does nothing to help resolve the issue.

If you do not have the proper motivated employees to take care of your customers them maybe scale back your operation so as to get the job done and if letting lazy straglers go then so be it. If you do not take care of your business how do you expect it to take care of you. ............................................... drill sgt.
