Cogito Ergo Sum |
My wife’s brother has the worst case of TDS. Everything wrong in the world is Trump’s fault. Countless times we have told him to not bring up politics. We do our best to just avoid him.

Funny thing, I went back into the rabbit hole of past posts today and saw where she changed her screen name and in FB world it changed on her past post too. My public list is pretty restricted so I think she may have thought if she changed her screen name she could lurk and see what I post. I block “followers”, I check for those at random times. I did find that when her husband passed a number of years ago I somehow missed removing his account, I have done so today. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I have met people that are kind, soft-spoken, and exhibit the epitome of graciousness. People like the the late Levon Helm. Melania Trump and such. I have met others who are like Trump, unfiltered, raw, abrasive and brash. And I have met those who are fakers of the former, and assholes that seem like the latter. I believe Trump, even when he is trolling, I know he is doing so. Ironic that some of the "smartest" people (real and those thinking themselves such) are fooled by Trump's trolling and deception. He simply is master of Sun Tzu's "All war is based on deception". Look at the effect. Jut the issue of "tariffs". The reactions and responses of the world has been remarkable in this, and mostly on what these people perceive to be in the other side of it. To many, Trump is the kind of crazy you don't fuck with. And that is a good thing. Bill Maher's statements about the dinner with Trump make it clear, that he is now unsettled with Trump. He thinks differently about him, but now has no firm standing. He is off balance. Before, he "knew" he despised Trump and was "correct" in his strong position. Now, not so much. Imagine if this were 90 days into a "Kamal-a- Waltz-ing" in the White House. (Where's Henry Mancini when you need him?) I approve of Trump, and am not surprised by many on the right that are afraid and fidgeting. Americans have been consuming fear porn for so long, they have become addicted to its effects. Some want the results of DJT policies, but are unwilling to pay the short term consequences to realize them, yet will endure constant loss over time of a much greater misery. I will likely not live to see the best of the results, but I want it for those who will come after, that a "good crop" will grow and yield a greater existence, as the potential is there, but it needs better opportunity to thrive. Having seen in our history, the despair and loss of the "other side of the coin", which brings forth things like communism, and peoples like the many of the Arabs (so called Palestinians), lost in a hole of hatred with nothing more than a big shovel and desire to kill, steal and destroy. Such have little chance of ever realizing potential without external intervention of intense pain and suffering that will move them, fill the hole and break the shovel and the will. I want the current and future America to avoid that extreme. And I believe at this point in time, DJT is the right person for that effort. And may people continue to elect the right person for the job, and not the person that simply "makes them feel good" about their situation. Such shortsightedness has guided most to prison, addiction, brokenness and death. I will engage with some people on "politics", but it does not take long to realize if I am dealing with someone that is simply rabid, and that's the end of it. Anyone, stranger, friend, family. And no shame or self convicting. Horses to water. Drink or die. "the meaning of life, is to give life meaning" ✡ Ani Yehudi אני יהודי Le'olam lo shuv לעולם לא שוב!

Sigmonkey, I had to Google your P.O. Box, I had forgotten about all the mail being sent to one box in Santa Fe. The little P.S. things. Ive been here many times when I lived out there: The Owl Bar and Cafe, in San Antonio, New Mexico was opened in 1945 by Frank and Dee Chavez as an expansion to J.E. Miera's grocery store business. Founded to serve the Manhattan Project workers at the Trinity site, it known for its green chile cheeseburgers. Found out that the military used to fill water tanks at the fire station I volunteered at in Socorro. Got to talk to a lot of people that were there at that time. There is a building in town that was a machine shop, according to the now deceased owner one of the I beams used came from Trinity, kind of got “lost” as he was on the crew erecting both towers. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Ironic when you are part of history, unaware of its future impact, in the moment. Such things, (as the P.O. Box thing) remind me of my own experiences of events. When I "revisit" the places where I was then things that are now "notable/historical", either in person or memory, it is an odd feeling. Sort of like time travel. A lot of intelligent people including many conservatives have been brainwashed and conditioned by the news media to hate President Trump. I've never seen so much hatred for one man and all he's done is win an election and try to do what's good for the citizens of the US. People believe without question every lie told to them about Trump never ever taking a minute to exercise critical thinking skills that would tell them the liars are the media and not Trump. Its a shame friendships and relationships have been damaged or destroyed all based on the hate of one man trying to do whats right for the country. I'd avoid political conversations with your friend and if that's not possible maybe he wasn't as good a friend as you were lead to believe.

My wife and I have succeeded in keeping cordial relations (by FaceTime) with my brother and his wife, who are good folks, and hard, hard left. We have a tacit agreement not to discuss politics. Same with my wife's best friend from our medical school days. The one time they agreed to dip into the news to try to find out "the truth" about an issue--was the Dan Rather GWB ANG story. My wife took it seriously, the friend did not. Afterward just said "You won". Nevertheless we stay in touch, and now her husband who was my best friend in med school has died this last Thanksgiving. Again--a tacit understanding not to talk about politics. There's more but not ready to share here. Bottom line is: we are at the age when friends and family are dying almost every month. The losses are very painful. We do not want to lose any friends, or connections with family, by letting politics get nasty between us. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

sjtill, I have several Liberal friends that I can have a reasonable discussion with. Certainly we will jokingly get riled up but we can go away as friends. These I can live with. But when things get vicious and the attacks become personal, really personal, that is when I mash down on the whoa pedal. Last time I did that was during the Covid lockdowns. When an allegedly educated person that was in a circle of friends back in our twenties tried to tell me that the Covid virus would not mutate. And the best part, at one time he was a pre-med student and proudly stated that in his FB tirade. I lost four friends/acquaintances in less than a year, I know where you are coming from. But some friendships become so toxic there is no other solution but to cut them loose. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. So deporting legal residents with no criminal history and not giving them due process is ok? Not following the Supreme Court's direction to bring a wrongly detained person back from El Salvador and saying they can't or won't is ok? Tanking the stock markets world wide is ok? As an American, this is not ok. Vince

Thank you for posting this. You explained so much better than I could about the religion of the left. The OP posted that politics ruined a friendship. And in true fashion of the left, you’re upset about MSM and far left talking points. The irony is that you weren’t all that worried about ignoring SCOTUS when Biden was IGNORING them. You weren’t all that worried about people’s immigration status when Biden was ignoring our laws. You weren’t real worried when DOJ was depriving citizens of due process. Hell, there’s not a single word from you about Trump himself being denied due process, or being tried in state court for an offense that if it was true was federal. And, how’s that stock market you were fretting about doing today? World didn’t come to an end, did it? Smart people actually made money off it. But, now, in a thread about politics ruining friendships, you’re worried sick. You don’t have a single post complaining about Biden’s lawlessness. In looking at your posting history, not a peep from you being concerned. NOT. ONE. Why on earth do you think that is, Vince? Because the left is a cult. The left (you) are perfectly content with ignoring SCOTUS, violating immigration laws, and depriving people of due process as long as it’s the Right people. The thing is, Vince, you dont hate Trump. You hate us.

I watched Maher's Youtube show too. Too bad everyone can't have a similar attitude and it was refreshing to see someone on either side with his attitude towards people we don't agree with. For those that haven't seen it. Worth a watch in my opinion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxlopbcfXpQ ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I don’t bring up politics in friendly non-work settings. But if someone brings it up, I’ll play. With leftist liberal positions that way they are, it’s an easy slam dunk for me and that’s not saying anything about my prowess at debating. I’m not going to turn down slam-dunking a 4.5’ high hoop. In a face to face at my wife’s reunion with her college classmates before Biden dropped out, one guy said he doesn’t like Trump because he doesn’t look presidential. I looked him in the eye and asked him, “And you think Biden is with his stumbling, wandering off by himself, needing cue cards on what to say and reading aloud the directions?” That shut him up. Democrats are for bringing back foreigners who entered the country illegally and raped, murdered, and rob people legally here. Who’s not going to want to take up the opposing side? “But Trump’s being indiscriminate.” “Too bad you didn’t complain when Biden indiscriminately encouraged millions of illegal immigrants to invade our country. If you had helped to stop Biden, then we wouldn’t be where we are now. Blame Biden and yourself.” "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Oh look, another 25+ year SigForum veteran but with only 300+ posts. Seems like a lot of these guys are around here, but they have only surfaced with anti-Trump comments. Sure seems that there are lots of them on the Forum. But maybe it’s the same guy with multiple aliases. Just wondering. --------------------- DJT-45/47 MAGA !!!!! It took three replies to bring up Biden, I will ding you for not blaming Obama. And now I'm in a cult. As for the number of posts, I really just read and if I have nothing to add, I don't. And for the guy with no due process. You all missed the point. Lets try again? I don't know if he is ms-13, or if he is illegal. But I know that he was removed by mistake. Trump fired the lawyer that made that admission and the administration admitted as much. Here is the subtle point. If he is illegally here or ms-13, then try him and convict him and deport him. No argument there, but we all deserve due process and so does he. It is a Constitutional protection. And I quote: "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." Fifth Amendment. It says person. The Founding Fathers put that in there for a reason. See they didn't like what the British were doing before and during the Revolutionary War. Democracies do things in the open. Not in secret and they follow orders of the court. You have been lied to. But enjoy your Kool-aid. I won't bother to reply to this further. Vince
