We used to do a lot of Relay/ Control panel upgrades . This would entail cutting holes in panels and mounting relays , switches , indicator lights , etc. Some of the Engineers would take an existing panel print from the archives and design the job from that . When we went to scope the job ourselves it was obvious that they never did a site visit . There would be bundles of internal wiring and even other eqpt in the same place they wanted us to mount the new stuff . We did a lot of on the fly redesign that saved their asses .

In my first post-college job, I worked with a fellow who worked for the company who designed the building and then changed jobs to work for the company who occupied the building. He taught me the value of providing "as-built" drawings as a followup to the architectural drawings. ![]() Yours is a very good example of why that's important. God bless America.
