Ditto. And ditto.

Once was enough for me, and I had one of the most straightforward and painless divorces ever.

I can be soulmates/life partners/common law spouse/whatever you want to call it with someone without getting a legal contract involved.

Steering clear of #2 myself also. I’d only be up for it after papers were signed.

I was married the first time in 1964, divorced in 1969. She was a great lady, but marriage was just not for us. We remained friends until her death in 2018.

Five years after that divorce, I met another wonderful woman. Today is our 47th anniversary, and this marriage shows every sign of lasting. Smile

After my divorce I swore I would never marry again. But now I will be celebrating 20 years of marriage in August to my lovely wife. She was also divorced.

This is the last marriage for both of us. As she put it “No one is getting out of this alive.”

There's usually a survivor. Unless you both croak at the same time.

My wife and I, both in our eighties*, joke about this.
*Not much longer in the eighties for me -- next birthday will be 90 (if I make it).

My parents were married for 68 years until Mom passed away last month. On the other hand, a guy I worked with decades ago was, at the time, going through his 4th divorce. He complained "I just can't seem to find a good one!". My thought was "Yeah, maybe they're not the ones who were the problem."

As for me, I've seen enough friends go through really ugly, nasty divorces to put me off the whole idea of marriage. Also, I never found anyone that I'd want to spend the rest of my life with, so that's part of it.

My parents were married for 75 years. I have been married to my first wife for 52 years. Choose wisely my friends. I am generally against divorce, but have had some close friends that got divorced and my first thought in each case was; what took you so long? Smile

I have an iron-clad clause in my pre-nup. If I die first, she is to throw herself onto my funeral pyre.

No takers yet. Someday...someday.

Unfortunately, while you are a unique individual, you’ve become part of the statistics. 41% of first marriages end in divorce. 60% of second marriages end in divorce and 73% of third marriages end in divorce.

If it’s any consolation, it’s not because of your inability to pick, it’s just how the numbers fall out and the driver is probably unresolved issues that resulted in the first divorce.

But I’m far from being any expert since I’m in my first marriage of 40 long, long, long, long years. I tell people my wife was fortunate enough to get a trophy husband who’s a keeper.

Source: items 7, 8, & 9.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congrats on your divorce!

The cherry that I happened to pick out of the pie wanted to get half of everything I had.

She also like fentanyl more than life itself.
