My high school senior daughter and I are right there with you and your’s on the out-of-state dream school and test scores.

God has a plan, he doesn’t let us know ahead of time, but we take comfort in knowing that leading God fearing lives, He won’t steer us wrong. That doesn’t mean it will be easy and everything will work out the way we want it, but it will work out the way He wants it.

In going through this with my oldest son two years ago and now with my daughter, you know about:

Super scoring
Florida Bright Futures
Application deadlines aren’t necessarily the same as deadlines for scholarships
How to find and apply for other scholarships
Getting your AA degree can from certain state colleges automatically allow you to transfer into certain state universities. For example, Tallahassee Community College to Florida State University.

Have all consideration for disabilities been applied to her ACT score?
They have cracked down on these exceptions as it was being abused. There are still accomodations for deafness and blindness, but not for the run of the mill learning disability. Does not hurt to check.

Prayer is no good without believing and I believe that God will give the answer in good time. Ten years ago, I came down with stage 4 colon-rectal/liver cancer. I lit up like a Christmas tree in my tests and I saw my cancer with a scope...nasty. With believing in prayer and using prayer, God cured my cancers with no major surgery. I start my day with prayer, scripture reading and a sermon on T.V. ending my day the same way. God answers all prayers and will grant many miracles, if one believes and follows Holy Scripture.

We had a rough weekend. I used AI to map out a schedule every day until the ACT test date in October. We are busy with 2 kids and you know how that goes. Well, Saturdays are practice test days from 9:30-11:30. then a break until 1:30 and review until 3:30. The rest of the day is free time. I was out of the house and I came home close to Noon. Ainsley had not yet started studying. We got into an argument about weekends and relaxing. I was angry and yelled. My wife was angry and yelled. There were tears. We all calmed down and Sunday became a study day instead of a day off.
I know she is working hard and these are some of the hardest days she has ever had. I just hope we can all find strength to push for one more month until the test date. Thank you all for your prayers.

Prayers sent, kids a stronger and more resilient than we give them credit for.

As the husband of a teacher please do not let her spend any more money on education degree than necessary. Such a bad ROI. We forces our teachers to get masters degrees and specialists degrees for pay raises. My wife teaches because she truly loves it and knows she makes a difference. What she gets paid for how hard she works is pitiful.

My daughters out of state dream school ended up being 4x more costly than an in state school. She also got more financial aid when you compare in state and out of state tuition. She choose to stay in state after all was said and done. She made the decision on her own that was one proud moment.

^This is what keeps me up at night. I would love for her to complete her undergrad debt free. If she doesn't earn significant scholarship, then my money will go to the local state college that offers a BS/BA that is required to become a teacher. In my county, pay is based on longevity, so when this was implemented, those with graduate degrees were screwed.

*This is an old thread*

Update - My daughter has been accepted to Troy University. This is her dream school. I have been praying for help and I know you guys have been praying as well.
So, in addition to getting accepted, I got a letter from an investment company and it turns out that I as the executor of my father's estate missed an account with a sizeable amount of money in it. My father was the OG first Troy State Graduate back in 1950s. I can't help but think that this money was sent from heaven.
The Lord is listening and he wants my daughter to go to Troy.

So happy for your family and daughter. I wish her the best.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Great news! Hard work paid off and the fact that Troy is relatively close to home I would also consider a bonus.

^Absolutely! Troy being close is a blessing. So another minor update, my daughter was also accepted at Ole Miss. She met with a recruiter at college night and they have a scholarship program where they will pay for your schooling, books, housing and give you a stipend. They also pay for you to do one year of study abroad. The catch? You have to teach in Mississippi for 5 years after you graduate. The other catch is that you are not vested in the retirement system until 8 years. So nearly a decade of living in Mississippi.
We talked about it and if we earn that scholarship, it will make for a difficult decision.
If she takes it and doesn't meet lifelong friends or find a husband, she will be alone in Mississippi unless our family moves there as well.
I think the course we are going to choose is for her to go to Troy paid for by Grandpa's money and Mom and Dad's money. After graduation, I think she will just move back home and begin teaching.
I pray that she will find a good man that will love her, but that's another mountain to climb.
