A Grateful American

| Entenmann's closed the Bayshore plant in Long Island in 2014, so the products are baked elsewhere and have not been the same since. I stopped buying their products a few years after.

Get my pies outta the oven!

| None of this store bought stuff is any good anymore between shrinkflation and gov mandated trans fat crap. And the prices are eye-watering now. May as well just make it yourself these days, that is a very easy cake to throw together

| I still treat myself to the crumb topped donuts if they are bogo. Three of them and a strong cup of coffee…NOM NOM NOM.

Spread the Disease

| I've also posted that these aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be: The texture is all wrong- waxy and boring. They also seem more desiccated and shrunken. My grandmother used to buy these when we were kids. I remember grabbing one with a glass of milk. I'd break one in half and let one half sink to the bottom of the glass to make a yummy sludge for the end. I know, it sounds gross, but it was amazing.

| I miss being able to afford them. Good lord. Every time I pick one up in a store I laugh at the price and put it down. "Are you insane?" Every now and then when I do have something from them, it's lacking. I used to have a coworker who worked at Entenmmans, he haaaaated the family, any time the name came up he'd curse them. (of course he was a scheming, lazy, POS so that means little. lol) quote: Originally posted by Xtbone97x: Been sad days for snack cakes for a longtime.
This made me think of Hostess. They're now 1/2 the size they used to be and don't taste the same either. Sad. (have an employee who delivered for them, he too curses, but for different reasons. I believe a pension he didn't get.) |

If you're in the southeastern U.S., Publix frequently has BOGO on Entenmann's products.

Kind of like tropical chocolate? None of these snack cakes are anywhere near the size, and taste the way they did, back in the '60s. Twinkies, cupcakes, Ho-Hos...you name it. They're all chemical shit now.

Growing up on Long Island in the 1990's I watched them go downhill and fast. It was some of my first experiences of disappointment.
