My math classes in high school involved using a slide rule, and that teaches you where the decimal point goes or you have big trouble.

There have been some major engineering failures (bridge collapse was at least one) several years ago and they were traced back to a younger structural engineer putting the decimal point in the wrong place. Google the subject and you'll find some huge, costly, and sometimes tragic examples.

An example: https://techstartups.com/2020/...on-in-cost-overruns/

I was buying weekly groceries a couple weeks ago and the cashier accidentally rang up 40 avocadoes instead of 4. She noticed this and tried to fix it, but ended up charging me for another 40. Thinking she had put in +40 and -40 avocadoes, she then rang up 4. I had really been charged for 84 avocadoes. She then called the assistant manager over to fix things. He must have written a novel on that register with all the typing, but he came back with a refund receipt for about $20 less than I had been charged, meaning I was paying about $20 for a cart full of groceries. I tried to explain to him how this couldn't possibly be correct, but he wasn't hearing it. I thanked him and left with my 85% discount cart full of groceries.

This most recent trip they didn't take off for all the digital coupons I "clipped" on the store app, but I figure I'm still way ahead.

My complaint with Lowe's is they give the discount only on non-sale items. You have to buy it at the regular price.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

My complaint with my local Lowe's is that they don't have knowledgeable employees. Went in one time looking for a 3 foot long 1/4" brass rod that the net said they had in stock. Asked 2 different employees where it was and they both said Lowe's didn't stock it.

As I was checking out with the rod (I found it), they came over and asked me to show them where it was located in the store.

I almost told them to pound sand, but ended up showing them.

Home depot management is the dumbest part of the company.

I was the sole technician in the tool rental department.

I kept all the tools operational and serviced. Rarely would there be more that 5-10 tools down at any time.
They also made me work the rental counter for customers. This is the part of the job that caused me all the stress.

I asked to be taken off that part of the job. They said no. I simply said that if I had to work the desk any more, that I would probably have a heart attack, so I would quit if they wouldn't acquiesce.

They called my bluff.

I said goodbye, and good luck finding a replacement.

6 months later, I visited the department. They hired 3 guys to replace me and still had over 100 tools down. The manager there asked me if I would come back. I said not even for "$300 million and a million alpacas". She laughed.

I love it here!

Four of us at lunch one day ,
Figured out that between
Worker shortages,
Training deficiency,
Transportation problems,
Quality control neglect
AND poor communication skills, the chances of obtaining everything on a 25 item grocery list is about 20%

Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency.
