I have a 1988 WGerman P226 9mm that I am having trouble fitting Hogue G10 Contour grips. The grips go on normally but interfere with the operation of the decocking lever. It looks like the decocking lever thumb pad is hitting the left grip, not allowing full downward motion enough to decock the pistol. So far,I have swapped the decocking lever with a current one with a slightly smaller thumb pad without any luck. I have shims on order also. Do you think the shims would bring the lever out from the frame enough to clear the left grip? My only solution after that is to return the grips. I don’t understand why they won’t work. I contacted Hogue and they are working on it but I haven’t heard from them back.

Had the same issue with my 1996 P226. I used a Dremel tool with a carbide burr and added a small amount of clearance for the decock lever.

No, the P-Shim takes the decocking lever 0.008" (standard) or 0.005" (thin) away from the frame. The pin or pivot the the decocking lever rotates on will not allow for a lot more distance away from the frame or it would interfere with the spring retaining notch. The P-shim will help, of course, but from the photo it looks like you'll still need to remove a small amount of grip material for the decocking lever to have proper travel. Done with a Dremel or similar and a bit of care, shouldn't look bad.

Had the same problem with the exact same grips on my WG 226, but rather than alter the grips, they fit perfectly on my P226/40 S$W. Will follow this thread to see what Hogue’s response will be.

A superior pilot is best defined as one who uses his superior judgment to avoid situations requiring the use of his superior skill.
