The info I received from member 220parts' contact over Germany, who used to work at SIG, was that this was a factory mistake/mix-up.
"After proof shooting and sighting in, the pistols were field striped again for cleaning. Slide and Frame were separated.
After this the pair the wrong parts and in final inspection they don’t found the mistake."

Now, if I somehow ended up with its mix-up twin, I definitely am going to buy a lottery ticket. Razz

You really need to find a "198" stamped barrel for that one! Big Grin

Yep, you don't see those everyday. Beautiful! Cool

Rarest are two of the Sig Gun of the Month runs.

Month: July 2005
Model: P232
Rainbow titanium slide, controls, and grip screws
Caliber: .380 Auto
Part Number: 232-38-JUL05
Total Production: 479

Month: June 2004
Model: P229
Satin nickel finish on slide and frame
Caliber: .40 S&W
Part Number: 229-40-SN
Total Production: 708

Most surprised to find was my S&W 1076 with FBI lineage. Bought it from a guy walking the gun show telling all about how it was an FBI gun. Doubt he knew it really was or it would have been worth twice what I paid for it.

a few more seldom seen S&W's

From 1930 to 1941, the average production of pre war nickel 38-44 Heavy Duties was only about 100 per year.

This one shipped to the Tonawanda Township (New York) Police Dept in June 1930

This one was shipped to the Consolidated Chemical Laboratories in St Louis in December 1938

This one with a seldom seen humpback hammer shipped in March 1939 to a Lieutenant in the US Army Air Force. He was KIA when his plane was shot down over Germany in 1943.

blindref, great revolvers. Years ago I collected M&P's and wound up with some HD's and such. It was a fun time and the history behind the guns was for me as much of interest as anything. As was sending some to Art and Vito at S&W for adjustments. I bet both of those guys are gone now.

Seeing your .44's reminds me of reading Bob Hagel and Elmer Keith as a kid. I always wanted a 1950 Target as I felt it would make about the most practical field revolver for carry and use. I got to spend an afternoon with Bob over outside Salmon where he lived, talking with him about his hunts, guns and of course Elmer Keith.

Anyhow, that all prompted me to grab the Heritage ..44 Mag as it is as close in weight and practicality as the 1950, but in the better field caliber. I'm glad I did.

Anyway, super glad you posted your collection. Very interesting stuff.

I had a S&W Model Highway Patrolman Serial number S130698 made 1n 1955 or 56 per S&W. It was a five screw side plate pre model 28. I purchased it from a Long Beach CA Police Sargent in 1977. It was full of rust and came with an Earl’s Saddle Shop made basket weave rear brake away duty holster.

With some steel wool, re-bluing and retiming with a new star extractor it was a great shooter.

Revolver was one of two handguns lost in a residential burglary we went thru in 2009. It took three years to find a replacement and it was from a coworker that finally wanted to sell it.

Not really valuable but a hard to acquire in California an older S&W revolvers.

Replacement was a model 27-2 from the original owner with a great trigger action job. I also scored the Pistol Shooter Box by Pachmayr Gun Works. Now I would call the Pistol Case a rare find.

I was told by the Original owner that the shop that did the trigger action job also had the hammer and trigger hard chromed to add to the smooth action. It is a shooter and a little odd.

1938 Japanese Type 14 Nambu.
War prize from an Imperial Naval Aviator shot down in the Pacific.
A kid (grandfather's bring back) inherited it and needed money for pot in 1993.
Now it's mine.
