Nice job Mesabi! Nice dogs (I also have a brittany) and looks like some fine shotguns.

I've got two more weeks of deer season down here in Georgia and plan to hunt the last couple of days and maybe kill one more doe off the farm. Then a few bird hunts until March and turkey season.

Unfortunately, not too many ducks this far south given the El Nino pattern keeping the temps about the same in Minnesota as they are in Mississippi so far this season.

My youngest made it happen last week 1/3/24. Due to her being on the swim team and water polo team she misses out on the rut and early season hunts. It's the end of deer season for us so kind of bitter sweet. Hray

Took the boys on an overnight camping trip and then a morning quail hunt last weekend. Had a great time and love getting them exposed to hunting. They're not "all in" on it yet but it's good to get them desensitized (in the good way) to the reality of life and death and wildlife conservation and respect and where our food comes from.

Fantastic sunrise

Good looking black english pointer named Maverick

Lovely sorghum field that I wish I could deer hunt

Oldest put some pellets into a target from my old 410 side by side

And the days harvest with my sons and my Father in Law

***Resurrecting an old Thread***

Got my first nice buck this year. The DOW opened up Deer hunting to the Elk first season this year and results did not disappoint. No Elk in camp, just a couple bucks.

Don't think I'll make it down there this season. Need to make plans early for next year's season.

This year's big fall hunt was a success, even though I wasn't the one that pulled the trigger. I'd placed a full deposit on a combination moose-wolf hunt in Canada in May, and had a medical event occur that put into question whether or not I'd be able to go. A very close friend of mine had been scheduled to go along as an observer and I arranged to switch roles with him, so he'd be the hunter and I'd be the observer if my doctor(s) would agree that my medical condition would make that possible. If not, he'd do the hunt without me. As it turned out, my situation improved and I was medically cleared. We had a great hunt and my friend took his first moose (he's from a European country and there's no moose in the areas he generally hunts in), and a couple days later he took a fine, black wolf!
When he took his shot, there were EIGHT wolves near at a kill site (four were grey and four were black colored).

If you're not aware of it, moose hunters in many (if not all?) provinces of Canada can acquire a wolf tag if they have purchased a moose tag. Besides being a very difficult animal to harvest, wolves kill a large number of deer, moose, and domestic animals within their range and the locals depend upon these animals directly and indirectly (through guided hunts) for their sustenance.

My buddy and I returned with 243 lbs of moose steaks, roasts, burger, and sausages for the freezer, he's having the moose skull, wolf skull, and wolf hide processed and shipped to his home, and I'm keeping the moose hide (with the hair on it) after the taxidermist finishes the rug. A great experience for both of us!!!
