What ever happened to Alcan primers? Login/Join

When I started reloading back in the 1970s my favorite primers were Alcan brand and I loaded them almost exclusively. My competition firearm back then was a Colt Gold Cup National Match which I shot up 11,000 rounds (practice & competition) with that gun; all reloads, and never had a single stoppage for any reason. Most of those reloads used Alcan primers. What ever happened to Alcan?

Looks like they were bought by S&W/Fiocchi in the 70s and they discontinued the Alcan name by 1980.

Thanks for the response and the link. Subsequent inquiries indicated that the factory in Sweden (where the primers were manufactured; I actually remember seeing that on the boxes) had a fire or explosion and was never rebuilt.
