I now live in the free state of Arizona and took the class and if I recall correctly it was 10 rounds at 7 yards and 10 rounds at 10 yards.
Here is some hilarious stuff:
My prior residence was in New York State, and the “training” requirement varied by county, some counties requiring a “handgun safety course” and some not. The funny part is since it
Is not
Legal to handle a pistol in New York without a permit, the course provided 8 hours of “training” on handgun safety without ever being allowed to handle a pistol!

Nevada-
Minimum of 8 hours of training including range time. Shooting test is a total of 30 rounds, 6 @ 3 yards, 12 @ 5 yards, 12 @ 7 yards. 5 shot pistols shoot 5/10/10. Shooting is not timed and you can use any stance you prefer. 70% hits on a B27 or B21 target to pass.
There is also a 40 question written test on the materials covered in class

Illinois requires 16 hours of training. However, you can get up to 8 hours credit for military, other training or permits from other states.

You fire 30 rounds, 10 rds at 5, 7 and 10 yards at a B27 target and are required to hit it at least 24 times.

Whenever I read about some “demonstration” requirement, I am reminded of something Massad Ayoob pointed out decades ago about licensing schemes: Any demonstration requirement that’s not strictly defined with clear standards will ultimately depend upon someone’s subjective whim. That may be fine as long as the evaluator is competent, honest, and wants all qualified people to pass, but not so much when they’re not. I’m reminded of discussions of “literacy” tests at one time that people had to pass in the deep south in order to be able to vote. Strangely enough, “whites,” regardless of their level of education, seldom, if ever failed. Blacks, however, including college graduates, very often did fail. The difference was obviously the prejudices and desires of those administering the tests, and the same thing could easily be true of gun-handling demonstrations.

Shall issue state. Proof of completion of pretty much any course with handgun safety as a component. There are other satisfactions that must be met similar to a firearms purchase.

What about pot? Since it's legal in CO, #6 does not apply, correct?

#6 DOES apply but everyone is looking the other way. I do not know how they are getting away with it except no one checks. I imagine that if a person is charged with driving while under the influence of Mary Jane it would have an effect.

Yeah, but those pot users can't legally get a firearm on a 4473; look at the Ohio shooters friend - he had bought a bunch of guns but lied on the form and when the cops showed up, saw the guns and bong and stuff, he was rapidly up shit creek.

In MA we, supposedly, only need to take an approved gun safety class that is state certified and then off to the local police dept. for fingerprints and background check. Then wait for the permit to be printed. All this, by law, is required to be done in 40 days but many people can wait multiple months for their permit to be issued.

Then there are local town/city requirements that may be added on, even though state law does not ask for them. For instance, Boston requires you to qualify outdoors at their range with their revolvers. Also, some places will issue you a permit that is restricted and doesn't allow for concealed carry but will allow you to own and shoot for target and hunting.

Very convoluted system that is unfair to some citizens.

Same process in VA. I let a video play in background while surfing the web, come back answer questions, let video play more, answer questions, repeat until done. You don't need to watch the video to get a 100% on the test. Wife did the VA Hunter safety class which also qualifies you. She actually hand to read, watch, and participate. After doing whatever class you go get fingerprinted at police station. Then you go to Clerk of the Court and file finger prints, completion certificate, application, and $30 (I think, might be $50). Took about a month. When I thought I lost mine it only took one week and to get replacement.

Good for five years, can renew at 6mo prior to expiration. Renewal starts at end of previous permit. No requirement for CE or additional courses.

I’ve lived in Fairfax and Hanover counties, never been fingerprinted for a permit.

In Alabama, I showed my Retired Military card, filled in the application, paid $1.00 for lamination, and walked. Only bad thing is since my prior military service the CCW must be done annually -- the good thing is it only cost one buck for lamination. Enjoyed talking to the office lady too. RTR

Yup! A pulse may even be optional. But the lack of training or qualification has always held us back when it comes to reciprocal agreements.

when I got mine in Arizona 10 years ago it was 2- 8hour days. Mostly classroom stuff and 5 shots at 10 yards and pretty much just had to hit the full size target paper... and if you didn’t they gave you 5 more rounds to try again it was pretty silly. Since then they have dropped the requirement for CCW to carry concealed so now, even though you don’t necessarily need one, it’s something like a 2 hour online class.
