Traveling from Alaska to Montana to conduct a wedding next week, want to be armed while in MT but have 2 12 hour layovers in Seattle, is it work dealing with declaration of firearms at sea tac? If so, what are the legalities of carrying our luggage around Seattle for a few hours or does the airport have good lockers? Thanks

You're going to feel a little pressure... |
I would imagine your checked bags will stay checked until your final destination. You should not see them during the layover. Bruce "The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with." -Douglas Adams “It is just as difficult and dangerous to try to free a people that wants to remain servile as it is to try to enslave a people that wants to remain free." -Niccolo Machiavelli The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. -Mencken

Same airline for both legs? If so, the checked bag should end up at the final destination, shouldn’t see it.

If you leave the luggage checked, you can always try using a hammock at the airport. https://www.iheart.com/content...s-the-best-reaction/

Checking in at SeaTac to fly home. The AA rep at checkin was not familiar with procedure on declaring a firearm but at least pleasant. Had to then take the bag to a TSA office for inspection. He asks to have pistol case opened to wipe for residues....I note that's not a typical procedure - he's all we do what we want in Seattle. Of course it tests positive and alerts so he needs to call a supervisor. Supervisor dam near tears the foam apart to tell me it's fine - no schitt Sherlock. Watched them do the same to another guy with a rifle and pistol case. Both agents acted like they had a cue ball up their rears......likely placeholders for when their shifts ended! ^^^ Same ordeal for me recently at PHX. Complete tear down of my bag and case. My travel bag has 5 separate pockets on it and the TSA dude actually complained about it having so many locks on it. All pointless theater. At least he did not reveal my Hello Kitty skivvies to my fellow travelers! ![]() Travel tip: When travelling with your artillery, check in early in order to deal with TSA digging around in your stuff. And clueless gate agents. When I declared to the gate agent, she wanted to see the pistol case. I took it out, she looked at it and then told me to put it back in my bag. She then walked with me to TSA for rinse and repeat. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Flew to AK last year through SEA. We had an overnight layover and slept on the floor in the airport. Bag stayed checked the whole time, no problems. No issues in Anchorage (no big surprise) and none in Chicago either (a pleasant surprise).

To answer the unanswered question… If for some reason you are retrieving your checked bags between flights, having them in your baggage is not restricted in anyway so long as you are not “behind” the TSA point in the “secure area”. That shouldn’t be an issue because you leave the secure area the area of the airport to get to baggage claim. Claim your bags, keep them in your possession (I wouldn’t trust any lockers) while you chill at the airport. You can check your bags no earlier than 4 hours before your next flight. Once you check them (declaring the firearm) you go back through TSA and to the waiting area for the next flight. Airport is jurisdiction of Port of Seattle Police and they are actually pretty good when it comes to knowing the rules. Shouldn’t even become an issue though. What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand??? ![]()

Yeah, SeaTac is pretty good, I never had a problem there. OIA on the other hand.... ______________________________________________ "If the truth shall kill them, let them die.” Endeavoring to master the subtle art of the grapefruit spoon.
