And for the next level of weird, Yoyodyne was conceived by Thomas Pynchon, and shows up in both V and The Crying of Lot 49 - 1963 and 1966 publications, respectively

I always thought that was a reference to the Tooter Turtle cartoons from the 60s.

Anyway, although I was a complete movie going/movie line quoting SOB in the 80s, Buckaroo Banzai is one that I had never seen. After reading this thread, I checked it out on Prime last night. I'm glad I finally saw it, and it generally entertained me for the time it was on. Had I seen it when it first came out, I'm sure I would have frequently quoted some of the lines.

I named one of my little female cats Penny Pretty........in reference to Penny Priddy from the movie. I loved that film.

agreed - great cheesy cult-classic from my high school years

Rock star - neuro scientist - stunt man / race driver - man of adventure -- Buckaroo had it all

I uh...I own this movie on DVD. I also own Big Trouble in Little China. Yes, there is something horribly wrong with my taste in movies. I can't help myself: just love some classic 80's trash movies!

And wasn't Ellen Barkin delightful in this movie?

In my DVD collection, those are known as the Holy Trinity.

Yes. I definitely enjoyed her character in Buckaroo Banzai. The grouchy mean old mom on Animal Kingdom not so much.

Stumbled across this quite by accident today. Lithgow and Weller talking about the movie. Audio could be better, but most of it is enjoyable.
