Anyone see the new Resident Evil? Same director of Barbarian and Weapons. I just came away from it and was surprised to find it was both horror and also rather funny. The main character brings an everyman likeableness and I think its a pretty solid entry. I would have liked the movie to slow down for a second and breathe but overall thought it was fun.

I'd like to see it but I also don't do well with horror movies. The originals were more action than horror, so they were fine for me. I've played several of the games but some scenes really give me the willies. Yeah it was jump scare based which is often best on the small screen if you are not a fan. I am more of a cerebral, psychological horror guy but at times can be swayed to check out a true horror jumpfest.

I thought it was okay. It was fairly well made with CGI effects that weren't too obnoxious. There were enough weird monsters to make it stand out from the hundreds of other zombie movies out there. I did not like the protagonist because I don't like watching "regular people" in film. Like Dr. House, I find "normal" people boring. The lead character is one of those nervous, stammering, beta males that are overused in comedic films. Because modern movies have difficulty with silence, he's one of those guys that constantly has to talk, either to his girlfriend on the phone or supporting "NPCs" or to himself. I felt it took away from the creepiness factor, especially since it was mostly long strings of swear words that got tiring for me to listen to. Resident Evil 1 from 2002 is still my favorite video game movie of all time.
