Knowing is Half the Battle![]() |
Thanks for the heads up on this being on Amazon Prime. I loved watching this in syndication growing up. I too was always amazed at the sprawling and empty California highway system. I didn't realize until several years ago back when we had a Mini Cooper that Larry Wilcox drove an Austin MINI in many of the episodes when they were trying to make him look like a lady's man. That theme song...the trumpets...the closeups of the motorcycles, I loved it.

Please, this was (and of course still is) standard issue crap television, with crap writing and acting. Nostalgia created by less than mediocre tv baffles me. Better than average, but still crap tv, "Have gun, will travel", old Hitchcock stuff, even that pervert Cosby's family show was way better than CHIPs.

I watched as a kid. I had the hots for Bonnie. They had a good looking set of girls. Let all Men know thee, but no man know thee thoroughly: Men freely ford that see the shallows. Benjamin Franklin

This is according to the ChiPs wiki; Officer Baricza has been seen drawing a weapon to protect himself three times. The first was when he encountered a group of men running a casino in a motor home and held the shotgun from his patrol car.[1] He drew his weapon next in "Peaks and Valleys".[2] Finally, he pulled his service revolver after being beaten and knocked to the ground by a minor who knew karate and was threatening him with a weapon. He was the only character on the series to do so. ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

i WAS IN ELEMEntry school when the show was on and being filmed. I would see the film crews and occasionaly the actors on my way to school. The show was mostly filmed in the San fenrando valley and on the 118 freeeway which was under constrcution and not yet open. The valley is huge with big streets and a lot less people back then.

You're not kidding. I was pleasantly surprised to learn many years ago that I enjoy Airwolf and Magnum just as much now as I did back then. Knight Rider and Buck Rogers, however, did not age as well, IMHO. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Seems so odd to have a police show with so little gun action. But then again, I always thought of CHiPs as a more modern Andy Griffith show. Both shows where even the worst dirt-bags they ran into were generally pretty nice guys. .

Lost![]() |
Yep. The episode was Karate (my favorite episode), and the minor was Danny Bonaduce (who is a real-life black belt).

I just realized that Robert Pine, who plays Sgt. Getraer, is the father of actor Chris Pine. Larry Wilcox is somewhat of an ambassador for the CHP as he attends most graduation ceremonies at the academy in West Sacramento, and has done some PR work for them, media, appearances. Very nice guy, genuine, somewhat reserved. Estrada on the other hand, my understanding during the 80's his head swelled-up, slept around Hollywood, pissed-off the wrong studio heads and ended up trying to repair his image with bit parts and cameos. As for snug uniforms, the wool trousers are tight, everyone hates them except the remote units during the dead of winter.

LOL. All I was waiting for was: "What's in the box? What's in the box?" Where is Morgan Freeman when you need him??? ----------------- I apologize now...

Larry Wilcox was also a Marine Corps Vietnam vet, served about a year in country during Tet. I understand that CHiPs was one of the first, if not the first, TV series that featured a real Vietnam vet.

I used to watch this show when I was a kid. I just saw an episode set in Venice and roller disco was the theme. It cracked me up!
