Even in a movie about fighting ghosts, I don't think it'd be a good idea to bring back Spengler. It just seems wrong to capitalize on the death of an actor. Given his son is the writer & director, I doubt they bring back Spangler. It has been mentioned that Weaver, Murry, Aykroyd and Hudson are all set to make some sort of cameo.

Ivan Reitman was the producer/director of the original Ghostbusters. His son, Jason Reitman, is the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Harold Ramis co-wrote the original with Dan Aykroyd. Ramis does have co-writer credit on Afterlife due to the movie being based in that universe. I will check it out, it looks like it'll be fun. The long after sequels are more fun than trying to recreate originals in my opinion. I enjoyed Jurassic World and Jumanji. ...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...
