David had some good roles over the years. He was 80 years old when he died. Tron and Cross of Iron were some old favorites of mine.

He was a very good actor and a consummate professional.

I first became aware of this actor when he starred with Malcom McDowell and Mary Steenburgen in Time After Time (1979).
For me, a memorable performance as Reinhard Heydrich in ABC's Holocaust (1978) mini series.
He tended to elevate movies he might be in, even cheesy ones.

We seemingly have very little actual talent to replace all these people who are passing. Hoping I'm wrong.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

Cross of Iron was the first thing I thought of, too. Lots of TV work as well. Wallander's father in the Branagh version and at least one Midsomer Murders he elevated by his presence.

He was a great actor. I loved him in "Wing Commander" and Babylon 5.

Cross of Iron was the first movie I thought of also.

He was also Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI.

I admit though, I keep mixing him up with John Wood who had great supporting roles in War Games and Ladyhawke.

Edited to add: David Warner was also in Star Trek V, but as a different character. Human that time.

Oh, yeah, "RIP". Of course. How could I forget? We can't have one of these threads without pages of "RIP".

Since people seem to want to post these anyway, maybe just one big RIP post and post all of them there.
Or maybe not.

He was born out of wedlock in 1941.
...In England.
Imagine what school would have been like for him in those days.

He was good in everything, but I didn’t know his name. Cross of iron comes to mind for sure. But that voice, it always reminds me of…

I think the first movie I saw him in was “The Island”, based on Peter “Jaws” Bentley’s novel of the same title. Starred Michael Caine as well.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24
