I’ve been looking for the title to a short story. It’s about a dwarf that lives in a flop house. He knows that if he starts growing he will die. Another man in the house knows this and starts cutting end of his cane,shortening the cane making him think he’s growing. I think the dwarf killed himself. I thought it was an Edgar Allen Poe story.

I am familiar with Poe's work. Don't think it is one of his.
