Stargate Continuum. Of course, it's a Stargate SG1 movie, but I never really got into SG1 a lot. (I LOVE SG: Atlantis, and HATE SG: Universe.) I rewatch this one quite often, as it's just such a great movie (better than any of the other Stargate movies and honestly, better than SG1, IMO). I don't believe that you would have to know all the Stargate lore to appreciate this one, although of course it would help some. And, now that I think about it, it's more of an alternate timeline movie, but time travel plays heavily into the plot. They are in the alternate timeline BECAUSE OF time travel shenanigans by the bad guy(s). It has some goodtime travel paradoxes in it, which are actually addressed in the movie. It starts off as a 'typical' SG1 episode, but there is a twist, and then it gets good. I thought Timeline was pretty good. It's based on a mediocre Michael Crichton book (book was ok, too, but I did enjoy the movie more). Heroes go back in time to the 16th century or so, and get involved in French/British/whatever intrigue. David Thewless is in this one, and he's amazing in pretty much anything. I am convinced that time travel (like the existence of aliens) is impossible, but I do enjoy a good time travel movie/episode. Star Trek over-played this trope WAY TOO MUCH, but the Strange New Worlds episode Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow was really good. So, I can tolerate them IF they are good. These two immediately came to mind for me as well. Interesting that Bruce Willis is in both. I've always liked the ButterFly Effect as well and I consider that a time travel themed movie. I reject your reality and substitute my own. --Adam Savage, MythBusters

Timestalkers. William DeVane going back to the old west. Very cheesy 80s movie that you'd think was a 70s movie. Still somewhat entertaining as I enjoy the genre. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

The Time Traveler's Wife. "Chick flick", not amazing, but there's something about it I like. No one's mention those ones with the car.

It wasn't a movie, but it was a two part episode of Quantum Leap that I still remember. The Scott Bakula character travels back in time to the date of the JFK assassination. He enters into the identity of a Secret Service Agent on the JFK protective detail. A series of events happen where he interacts with JFK and his wife making small changes. He returns to the present and says to another character that he failed in his mission. JFK was still assassinated. The other character says you're wrong. In the original timeline JFK and Jackie were both killed. Your mission was to save Jackie to prevent her death and a series of bad events that sprung from her death. Your mission was a success. It was a well done episode that I still remember.

That episode was a VERY big deal when it originally aired. I'm too young for the whole "Where were you where JFK was shot" nonsense (I got SICK TO DEATH of hearing this all the bloody time), but I do recall that was an excellent two-parter. I also recall an episode in the 80s in the Twilight Zone or remake series, titled "Profile in Silver." A history teacher goes back in time and prevents the JFK murder. However, history has been messed up and everything starts unraveling and heating up. Cuban situation heats up, Soviets get crazy, country is on the verge of nuclear war. . . Turns out, history 'knows' it was changed, and there are all sorts of unintended consequences as a result thereof. In order to 'fix' things, the history teacher goes back again and this time, takes JFK's place and the teacher ends up getting killed. Episode ends with JFK in a classroom in the future talking about sacrifice and courage. It was actually pretty good. Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

For TV shows, Quantum Leap has already been mentioned, but both Life on Mars and its follow up Ashes to Ashes were great with John Simm and Keeley Hawes respectively as the time travelers. Harshest Dream, Reality

There was a little movie out 5-10 years ago called “The Endless “. Low budget but well made. I recommend it.
