I watched it and glad I did. I hadn't seen it in 20+ years and forgot how good it was.

I can't count the times people have asked me if I had seen this movie. I guess it must be mandatory if you have the same last name.

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.

... what a great movie, location and story.

Selleck, Laura San Giacomo, and Rickman characters are all enjoyable.

For most of the production locations, I have been to and know.

Film captures it well, watch on a big TV.

Yep, very enjoyable flick. I have it on DVD and watch it periodically. Good acting all around, but I think Rickman steals the show. And the shootout scene is one of my all-time favorite scenes in a Western.

It's an actual rifle built by Sharps just for the movie and given to Tom Selleck to keep at the end of shooting the movie. They only made a few of them.

I believe Selleck's rifle is in the NRA Museum. There is a gallery dedicated to "Hollywood" guns.

I knew it went to a museum, I just didn't know which one. I don't think I'd enjoy shooting it but sure would like to handle it. I don't like the recoil of my Marlin 45-70 with heavy loads. I can imagine what a 45-110 would be like. Eek

Just watched again last night. Second time in 2 weeks. Hadn’t watched it in 20yrs.
At the credits at the end it states, his rifle was made by Shiloh in Montana. From what I read Tom Selleck has all three that were made. One was an extra, one for closeups, and one that was made with an aluminum barrel for weight reduction in the action shots. After the movie production ended, Selleck sent all three back to Shiloh for reconditioning. Including replacing the barrel on the aluminum to a real barrel. At least that’s what I read on the afore mentioned Shooters forum.
