Get my pies outta the oven! |
Raiders Of The Lost Ark was on TV the other night, followed by Temple Of Doom. I don’t know why I’m just figuring this out at age 48, but turns out that Temple Of Doom is the prequel to Raiders? I guess I never really paid attention to the years these took place, but it appears that Temple of Doom takes place in 1935, while Raiders takes place in 1936. Am I the only one here that didn’t realize this???

I don’t want to blow your mind or ruin any other movies but the boat sinks in the end of Titanic. Always new it was a prequel. What blew my mind watching it many years later was seeing Dan Akroyd in a bit part. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

I think I was too busy wondering why that annoying kid was in it, or why it was so bad, to worry about when it was supposed to be. _____________________________________________________ Sliced bread, the greatest thing since the 1911.

I watched TOD once. Only once, whereas I’ve watched ROTLA dozens of times. Don’t know if it was a prequel or sequel but it’s more like NyQuil. Icarus flew too close to the sun, but at least he flew.

Interesting. I never got the timeline. Is it truly a prequel though? Should there be some sort of tie in for out to be a prequel? ____________________________ Yes, Para does appreciate humor.

It’s really just meant to be an “Indiana Jones Tale”. Remember these were meant to capture the pulp serials of yesteryear and Indiana Jones is an adventurer with many adventures under his belt. So no it’s not a direct prequel as much as an adventure that happened before Raiders. Shia LeBouf aside I think Crystal Skull gets far too much hate when it is totally in the pulp adventure vein that is Indiana Jones full of over the top adventure and mysticism. LeBouf was TERRIBLE though. I have to concede that. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

I think I read about it when I saw it in the theaters. There is really NOTHING in that movie that indicates it's a prequel. The time/era isn't substantially different (for example, Roaring 20s in one and Great Depression in the next), and the events of each movie are more or less separated from each other. There in no annoyingly whiney "I hope he dies" kid in Raiders, and Indy is basically the same person in both movies. At least, I never noticed any character development (or lack thereof) (such as, he loved snakes in Temple, but had a bad experience in that movie, so that in Raiders, he hates them now). As far as Akroyd is concerned, I haven't seen that movie in several decades, so I don't recall if I ever recognized him or not. I had to Google it just now to see him (he is the token white guy who sees Indy off when Indy gets on the plane leaving Shanghai (or whatever city the movie starts in) ). . . I saw it once, that was enough. Easily the least memorable of all the Indiana Jones films. I didn't catch the year thing either (amazing what you learn from SF, huh?), and I agree it doesn't really matter what order they were produced or seen in, except that Crystal Skull needs to be last. Crystal Skull was actually OK and kind of fun. I liked that Marion was in it, it added an almost Star Trek like sense of continuity to it. The kid though, yeah he wasn't a great choice.

In the yahd, not too fah from the cah |
The kid is annoying at times but Kate Capshaw's character makes that movie unwatchable for me.

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles is also a prequel to Raiders.

What was at one time the WORST movie of the Indiana Jones franchise, and tossed away into the dustbin of foolish sequels, is now just another movie in a franchise that's managed to screw-up all the equity the first movie had built up. I understand a fifth movie is in the works...god help us

From what I've read, Lucas was going through an ugly divorce at the time, so he channeled all his hate and angst into Capshaw's character. That is why she is petty, whiny, nearly useless, and a royal PITA for most of the movie. . . Fear God and Dread Nought Admiral of the Fleet Sir Jacky Fisher

I catch myself watching it when it comes on TV. It's a little on the "campy" side, but I think LeBouf totally ruins the entire movie - horrible miscast. Similar to Rosanna Arquette as Callie in Flight of the Intruder. Damn near ruins the movie.

I would argue the movie would have been great if they’d have cut his character out totally. Hell I actually think him having a daughter would have been cool and could have made for some fun scenes but I agree Shia blew it. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."

See I think Labouf was well down the list of things wrong with Crystal Skull. 1. Cate Blanchett (a great actress) was horrific and her character was really stupid. 2. Aliens. 3. Pirates of the Caribbean-esque sword fighting and CGI cinematography. 4. Nuclear bomb proof refrigerators. 5. Aliens. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

See I thought cate blanchet was great no more over the top then other Indy Villains. Most of the Sword fighting/CGI mess surrounded Mutt no Mutt a lot of that is gone. Why are aliens bad but the Ark of the Covenant melting faces off with ghosts and demons not? All Indy movies have a super natural aspect. Ok the fridge was kinda cringe worthy but I mean he did ride on the outside of a sub in the Atlantic in Raiders. I am not saying Skull was a great movie but I just don’t think it deserves the hate it got and with a few fixes could have been pretty great. "Guns are tools. The only weapon ever created was man."
