Ok, I help assist teaching a handful of basic firearm classes a few times each month. Its stunningly remarkable, the number of people (esp these days) who's frame of reference for gun handling, is from entertainment. I enjoy motion pictures but, the corrosive effect its had on people's perspective and what passes as common knowledge, is pathetic. So, I wanted to see what members can pull up, from serious roles and characters (no MASH clips or, desk pops ), where horribly bad gun handling is displayed by a character that should know better. The early Bond movies are pretty rough, however this scene always sticks out

It's not a clip, it's a magazine.... A gun in the hand is worth more than ten policemen on the phone. The American Revolution was carried out by a group of gun toting religious zealots.

We digress but yes. Back in the day, he was something completely different. We watched "Blue Velvet" again the other day, just awful. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

I was going to say, I thought Agent Cooper performed pretty well for a guy that was trapped in another dimension for a few years and then spent the majority of the season as the catatonic "Dougie"! I'd cut the guy some slack.

I had someone point out that the scene, apparently he's in another dimension and wasn't clear he could trust anybody in the diner...not sure how that squares the circle but, whatever. The liberals loved seeing 'good ol'boys in cowboy hats' getting their comeuppance by Cooper, not sure what dunking the guns in frier was doing

Deep-frying the guns would make them too hot for the bad guys to hold, preventing them from being used to take pot shots at Agent Cooper as he exited the scene. By the time those guys could have fished their guns out and let them cool down enough to handle, Cooper would be long gone. Also, that scene demonstrates Cooper's kind regard for the state of those guns, making sure they were well oiled...

Not handling per say but I recently watched where they took a striker fire pistol and didn't rack it mind you but you heard the cocking sound of pulling back the hammer like on a revolver or hammer pistol. Can't remember the show but I "yelled" WTF at the TV screen.

Similar vein: Korean shows have police still using short barrel revolvers (.38?), fingers always on trigger, cock the gun well after already having the gun on target, always fire a blank warning shot, always have cross fire situations, always sweeping somebody. I checked online: apparently this is all real and how they do things in real life, not just in shows!!! And they really use revolvers with one blank loaded. Not bad handling per se... but I thought that CSI Miami was hilarious. All the hot chix wearing beltless Spandex pants while trying to carry full size duty pistols. I kept hoping for the whole set up to slide south. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

Okay, I watched the video of Special Agent Dale.... So, would the rounds in the pistol cook off at a temperature of apx. 350 degrees? And if the one in the chamber did cook off would the pistol cycle another into the chamber and cook that one off? Actually, I'm thinking the ones in the magazine would go off first... before the one in the chamber... I know, way over thinking the whole thing. We need someone here next time they are going to deep fry a turkey with their buddies around to just go ahead and do the experiment. Probably best to do it after cooking the turkey and having a few beers. My Native American Name: "Runs with Scissors"

I doubt it, but it would seem to be a good question for one of those YouTube gurus who are always doing crazy things with guns like trying to fire ice bullets, firing them with plugged barrels, etc. Added: A video by some of the stupidest people I have ever seen on the Internet, but which evidently demonstrates that cartridges will discharge if placed in a hot deep fat fryer (skip ahead to 7:00 or so): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHGBP1DS_vEThis message has been edited. I watched an old movie awhile back called "Kiss the Girls" starring Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman. Morgan Freeman was a Police Detective. In one scene he had his shoulder holster on backwards (Left handed draw/holster on the right) with the handgun grip facing the rear and the muzzle facing forward (horizontal draw). I was shocked when I saw it. Freeman has to have had shoulder holsters on MANY times in all his acting roles to not notice it was on backwards. Certainly an armorer on the set should have caught it as well as wardrobe.

There's a bunch of fun gun stuff in that one. That also has Cary Elwes telling Morgan Freeman, who carries a nickled P226, to "reach for his Glock." Then, Freeman avoids igniting a gas-filled room by firing through a milk carton?! Hilarious!

Not terrible gun handling but really bad aiming technique: Was watching Thunderball (007) the other day and in the opening scene after he beats up the dude dressed like a widow; the bad guys chasing bond used this firing method whereby you poke the gun out towards the target (bond) each time you pull the trigger. So there is no two handed stance and not really even a one handed bullseye stance. Not really "point shooting" either. Just jabbing the gun forward in the general direction of someone and pulling the trigger while jabbing.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC4rg1Em8mo ------------------ SBrooks
