I was 9 years old at the time. Dad took me to see it, living in the NY south towns it wasn't far away. Turned out that it was a waste of time, the piles of rock were supporting the cliff edge, if they removed all the fallen rock, the cliff would of collapsed. Some how I have fallen into memory lane today, I figured an old person from Western New York might recall it. https://www.history.com/articl...alls-dewatering-1969

Having been to the falls, It's something I'll never forget. But in regard to your topic, I was born that year. I do recall seeing pics of the falls, frozen. They looked somewhat similar to those in your link. lots of jagged rocks below normally hidden by the rush of water.

It was a big deal locally then, now , not much. My dad rarely took me anywhere (worked a lot). He was a Korean war Army Engineer {building bridges and stuff). Pretty sure that's why we went. He didn't talk about the war much, other than no Spam was allowed in the house, and how someone blew himself up by greasing an oxygen tank regular fitting at the valve. Strange how somethings, places you never forget, years ago. Now as far as current stuff, I can't find my tape measure
