Having cut the Satellite off at the beginning of the year it’s taken some time to adjust from not having my movie channels. I have all of them via apps now but the menus are cumbersome. Last night I found Rapid Fire on Starz. I hadn’t seen it probably since the 90’s. Not that great of a film honestly but I always liked Powers Boothe. He made Red Dawn for me and not every role, but here and there, just really liked the guy. Brought grit and some honesty to roles.
Brandon was a totally different thing for me. As a small child in the 70’s, well Bruce was my first hero in life. Guy was just amazing. A legend. He taught me at a young age to look at other cultures, and see what beauty they offer. I started taking martial arts soon after. First Taekwondo. Then Kung fu. Then a few others. I just remember going through the films, then buying magazines, getting gear and I’ll never forget when I learned, hey this guy is dead. There are no new movies. He’s been dead for years. I was devastated as a young kid.
FF to the 90’s. Rapid Fire comes out. I didn’t know about it until it hit one of the movie channels on cable. Brandon Lee, I was like yeah, here is another knock off guy. I mean in the 80’s there were a string of Asian actors with Lee as their name, or Le, that were copycat or wannabes. Some terrible films. Rapid Fire showed some promise, then I saw the Crow. I remember seeing it for the first time and saying wow, his son is going to make up for what I didn’t get to see. I thought I was seeing a music band do a so so first album, then on the 2nd album, you could tell they were really coming into their own. He was just amazing in the Crow, then I find out he died before release. Really? The fuck is this? Again?
So RIP Bruce and Brandon, you are both still missed, big time. Damn shame man. We were all robbed, twice.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
