I've given this a ton of thought. I'm a child of my media and I have to say that, to choose just one, mine is the part of The Fifth Element that begins when Corbin Dallas gives Ruby Rod the gun to hold on the Mangalore prisoner and ends with the Federation President stating "I wonder?"

Thanks for posting your "Why". I'm going to go watch that scene (again?) now.

There are tons of lines and moments but the one entire scene that has always held a special place with me is the 'weather prayer' from Patton (1970). It has an ethereal quality to the score juxtaposed with the (then) portrayal of the brutalities of war. I was seven years old when I first saw this at a drive in with my parents and brothers. I saw it on BluRay with my wife last week and it's still as powerful to me as 1970.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11

"Dr. Evil:
The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it."

“For over a thousand years Roman conquerors returning from the wars enjoyed the honor of triumph, a tumultuous parade. In the procession came trumpeteers, musicians and strange animals from conquered territories, together with carts laden with treasure and captured armaments. The conquerors rode in a triumphal chariot, the dazed prisoners walking in chains before him. Sometimes his children robed in white stood with him in the chariot or rode the trace horses. A slave stood behind the conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.”

"Michael, that man over there is talking to himself; see that scary guy over there? Well, who is he? What's his name?."

This whole movie is filled with scenes that allow you to have four different emotions or perspectives,

I had to watch it 6 times to get a handle on all the messages, feelings and lessons it was exhibited.

This scene had one person turning to another for three reasons,
And the other person embraced the opportunity ,

It's full of promise,. . . . . . .but is it really?
