I realize I am way late to the game but I just watched Goodfellas for the first time today.
I’d heard of it and knew what it was about just never watched it for some reason.
I have however have seen The Sopranos multiple times. I did not realize it shared so many characters.
Goodfellas was a decent film and worth a watch but nothing to write home about or really watch again.

I loved them both

IMO you really can’t compare the two, they are each their own entity.

You really think Goodfellas is “nothing to write home about”? Really? I never get tired of watching this movie

I wonder if this is how someone feels about the Godfather after watching the Sopranos. lol

I think all of the big budget and well done TV shows are more often more likable and memorable (for lack of better words) than the similar films if for no other reason than all of the wxtra tine they had for character and plot development, making for richer versions of both when done well.

It's also true that the shows all have the benefit of standing on the shoulders of the famous films and benefitting fron those examples of crime stories, mob stories, heroes and villains, etc., and are often better versions, more subtle, believable..

I can see how the films are in ways less interesting, seen now, after the best kf the best of modern TV originals.

I still love films. But TV is just longer films to me, practically speaking.

Albums vs Songs or something like that. I dunno.

Watch the films anyway. More than once each. They're still great on their own.

"Leave the gun, take the cannoli" The Godfather series pretty much defines the Mob movie. The Sopranos is a departure on the genre that stands on its own. Especially with its soundtrack music.

Yeah, the director is a hack who thinks he knows how to make films.
