Get my pies outta the oven! |
The wife and I are considering watching the British version of “Ghosts“, I’m very leery about American remakes, they usually are terrible. The British version of “Being Human” was great but the American remake sucked. Has anyone seen either of them? Is it worth bothering with? The premise of the show for those not familiar is that a young present-day couple buys an old run down mansion and the place is inhabited by the ghosts of people who had lived and died there previously, even people who had lived on the land prior to the building of the property, I believe one of the versions even features a Viking, LOL.

My family has watched both. We find the American remake funnier… Worth a try. Give it 3 episodes NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

My wife and I watched the Brit version of Ghosts and liked it. We watched a couple episodes of the American remake. Found it thoroughly unfunny and uninteresting. Going to have to look up Being Human and Life On Mars. "America is at that awkward stage. If you do watch Life On Mars (set in the 70’s), there’s a sequel series set in the 80’s called Ashes To Ashes that was good too.

I haven’t watched the British version, but the American series is quite funny.

Watched both versions of Being Human and thought the American version was waaay better. I wanted to kill the British werewolf just for all the ugly crying and teenage girl screaming he did. All. The. Time. We've been wanting to check out the American version of Ghosts but I'm stubborn about signing up with the required channel subscription.

waring, the Gene Genie is addicting, if you enjoy Life on Mars, you will need to seek out Ashes to Ashes, the sequel show, we ended up buying a cheap region free DVD player and buying the DVD's from the UK ETA PA Sig beat me to it https://chandlersfirearms.com/chesterfield-armament/

Yep, give the Brit version of "Being Human" a shot. Yes, George is a bit whiny but he hadn't realized the full extent of his power and was still being a victim like he had before becoming a werewolf. The absolute best scene for me was when Annie (the ghost) and company confront Owen, her ex-fiance. "This is where the Wild Things are and we have your scent. Find a safe place with locks and bad dogs, and never ever turn off the light."

My wife and I started watching the American version of Ghosts via on-demand and it's actually pretty good! I saw it just got renewed for another season and so far no woke bullshit to contend with.

Bumping this one again if anyone needs a funny show to start watching, it's now on Season 2 and as good/funny as Season 1 The premise? A young couple in upstate NY (Hudson Valley) inherits a huge old property they want to turn into a B&B but it's inhabited by the ghosts of people who lived there or lived on the land at one time, including a Viking from around 1200 AD and a Native American from the 1600's. The wife can now see them due to a bad tumble/near death experience but the husband cannot.

Loved the BBC version. Some of the humour is very English, and an American audience might miss the joke. Tried the American version, and found it a cheap copy. Lord, your ocean is so very large and my divos are so very f****d-up Dirt Sailors Unite!

My wife loves the American version. I think it is better than most sitcoms, and watchable. It ain't great, but is a decent entertainment. I find most three camera sitcoms absolutely intolerable. This is not that. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Agreed. Tried watching another episode tonight, based on some of the feedback in this thread. Nope. Same thing happened when British TV did a remake of Professor T. The original Belgian series was far better. After having enjoyed the British TV version of Ghosts, it is to us. "America is at that awkward stage. That’s interesting that you say that, I think it is whatever you get used to watching and then you always find yourself trying to compare it to the other. My wife and I watched the American version of The Office and loved it, then tried watching the original British one, and just could not get into it; the idioms, the accents and the humor are all hard for a lot of Americans. The Brits seem like they love sly dirty humor.

Watched a 1 1/2 season of the British comedy. Found it funny but not enough to keep watching. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20
