Dis frikin guy...
There is a difference.
Like 9mm vs. .45acp

But to the original question, I submit Cheap Trick. They had songs on all sorts of 80s movies- Roadie, Heavy Metal, Spring Break, etc.

Kenny Loggins, in my opinion.
If not, who else?
Certainly Loggins overall, but for chick flicks it has to be Lionel Richie.
But then again, other than White Knights and the Movie Endless Love, there wasn't much of him in movies until a decade or two later.

Why not count sequels?
Empire Strikes Back
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Return of the Jedi
ET
Indiana Jones & Temple of Doom
Space Camp
Empire of the Sun
Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade
Witches of Eastwick

trapper189It seems to me that sequels are rehashes of the original scores and if we are limiting the discussion specifically to the 80s, it doesn’t seems right to include John Williams’ work from the 70s. I’m not knocking him in the slightest.

IrishWindSoundtracks that are symphonic scores: John Williams no doubt.
Soundtracks that are loaded with pop music? Kenny Loggins seemed to be the go to for the decade.

whoever did John Hughes movies for the rest,
