For the Who knowledgable. Are the seasons progressive, or can you cherry pick a season here & there? Any issue with watching the 'specials' out of order? Am I going to be missing context if I watch this new D+ special, without any prior Who knowledge?

There are multi-episode story arcs and there are standalones. I'd just start with Christopher Eccleston and work my way to Matt Smith. You might want to watch Peter Capaldi but this is where it started getting a bit too big for its' britches and started to get a bit preachy, the second half of his run. I thought he was a bit on the mean side a little too much as well but a lot of other people said that they saw some of the early Doctors in him from the 1963-1989 era.

I've decided to rewatch everything from Eccleston to the end of Capaldi but stopping there.

Don't forget to watch the 50th Anniversary Specials too from 2013, they were AWESOME including a very clever way of incorporating the 1996 movie Doctor (Paul McGann) in and a cameo by Tom Baker.

Doctor Who has ALWAYS been a progressive show, I just saw a clip from the Jon Pertwee era where it's about oil companies and pollution threatening the Earth but they were always good at making it a part of the storyline and it wasn't in your face like it is now. Lectures about pronouns? Give me a freaking break. Roll Eyes

You can watch the 60th Anniversary specials but you won't have the context and background of the David Tennant Doctor so I would say watch from 2005 until the end of the Tennant era first

Thanks, it'll get back-burnered, for now, since I don't have a Max subscription.

Russell T Davies meddling again, this idiot will end up killing off the franchise once again and for good:

RTD Wanted Sonic Screwdriver Changed Because He Was Worried It “Looked Too Much Like A Gun” Before

What is wrong with this guy? This and the Davros thing is enough to convince me I’m done with Doctor Who, I will not be watching this new season about to begin. It’s sad because I’ve been a lifelong fan of the show. Frown

I am a child of Tom Baker though. Tom Baker will always be “my” Doctor. Smile

I watched the delightful, off-kilter Tom Baker Doctor Who while our kids were small. Interestingly, our older son continues to follow DW but I don't.

PASig is correct.

Eccleston to Capaldi (at least through Clara). After that meh. After that it’s so woke it pained me. I think I got three episodes in and have never watched a new one since, and won’t watch the new Tennant shows.
