I've always liked Tom Selleck. Met him back in 1983 when I was assigned as his liaison officer when he came to Naval Air Station Memphis for a volleyball tournament. He declared from the onset that he was there as an athlete and not as a TV star of Magnum PI. Really nice guy. Not full of himself like too many Hollyweird characters. We talked some. Made time for the CO's wife and daughter who swooned over him. LOL

Reason for this post is that I just learned the actor who plays his father in Blue Bloods, Len Cariou, is only 5 years older than Selleck. Who'd have thunk! Big Grin

Pictures from that tournament back in the day. Smile

I met him a few years ago at the Vegas Antique Arms show. Apologized for bothering him but said I had always wanted to shake hands with Lance White. He got a laugh out of that. Nice guy but wish he would stop doing those cheesy reverse mortgage ads.

Yeah I agree. But as they say, it pays his freight, although I don't know as he really needs it. Smile

Your title says “Blood Bloods”, did you mean to say Blue Bloods?

I get a kick when he says "this isn't my first rodeo" and "I know what's what". Have no idea what that's got to do with reverse mortgages unless he's had one himself.

I'd like to see Selleck do a couple more of the Jesse Stone movies. I really liked the series.

Been a long time Selleck fan and also think his Jesse stone series is some of his best work. I read somewhere that there are more planned but no time frame was given.

I am also a big Selleck fan and love the westerns that he did in the past. It took a while but I have been able to separate the new "Magnum: from the original since it is so different. Higgie's great ass helps.

I will disagree about Jessie Stone. As a huge Parker fan the translation from the books was not so great.

Well the 9th movie, Lost in Paradise, was co-written by Selleck as there were no more Parker novels to make movies from. Saving grace perhaps?

I'm a long time Selleck fan. Pretty much enjoy anything he's in.
What I'd really like to see is Selleck and Sam Elliot make one more western. The plot could be simple. Just a couple of old cowboys trying to deal with modern life until something comes up that needs an old fashioned solution. Put some humor in it as well. Both of these guys are great at comedy.
Oh well, one can dream can't they?

Never heard of Jesse Stone. What are they about?

I was a great fan of "Magnum PI" and Tom Selleck. Was very disappointed when the series ended. I've seen him since in a few roles and he did fine. I've not gotten interested in "Blue Bloods", though. (I pretty much avoid CBS when I can--I do watch the reruns on cable of the various NCIS shows.)

Another actor from that era was Gerald McRaney, of "Simon and Simon". He has been resurreccted in several shows, most recently (I think) in some of the "NCIS: Los Angeles" episodes as a serous political authority figure who oversees Hetty. I always liked him, too (even though he smoked in the S&S episodes).

Really enjoyed all the Jesse Stone movies. Was a blow to see Reggie pass before he adopted Steve but, at least he finally petted Reggie on that couch scene. I have a huge soft spot for those breeds having an Irish Setter and Golden Retriever at the same time in another life..
