Trailer dropped. It looks good. I was apprehensive when this was announced, since any film/tv series based off the game has so far been underwhelming at best. But since WotC has had input in development, the movie looks like it will be faithful to the source materials. Some of the places shown should be familiar to those that have traveled up and down the Sword Coast, especially with the 5th edition books.

As a DM many moons ago, I hope it holds the promise it offers. Chris Pine I like, so I am holding hope....

Oof. Idiot men, and women that can brutalize everyone and everything, set to contemporary music. Great. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Veeper, July 22, 2022 01:14 PM

It looks like a campy homage to real gaming sessions. Can’t say I’ll go to the theater for it but I’ll probably watch at some point.

The Legend of Vox Machina begs to differ.

That was, indeed, quite fabulous, based off the Critical Role YouTube channel of voice actors.

D&D is the most fleshed out, comprehensive fantasy setting ever put forth (yes, I know, Tolkien). but between books, guides, PC games, manuals and what all knows else you would think someone would come along and do a serious show (movie or series).
It can be done. LOTR and GoT proved that.
Did love the Owlbear though.

One would think that they could, I also wish that someone makes a Conan movie that is true to Howard's work, but I wont hold my breath for this.

I don't know why every D&D movie has to be campy and funny and stupid.
Ironically the one that took it the most seriously is probably the Tom Hanks after school special where he goes crazy from playing... lol back in the 80s when the moms all thought D&D was the devil....
But LOTR and GOT have proven you can have a serious fantasy story without being cheesy
Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

Was that the one where there was some clue about “Twin Towers” and finally someone figured out they were referring to the World Trade Center?

I do enjoy Stranger Things. And being an 80s nerd who played back then it does bring back memories. It did pain when they made obvious errors (like a fireball is not going to kill Demogorgon in one shot).
I had a lot of hope for the DragonLance movie a few years ago. But that one bombed.
Honor looks good in that it uses the Forgotten Realms settings and lore, but is telling it's own story instead of trying to live action an existing module.

I was at GenCon in 2000 when the first D&D movie with--Jeremy Irons--was advertised like crazy. Um, I never watched it. I was at Ft. Sill, OK at Field Artillery OBC when I saw trailer for Highlander 2 and I knew almost instantly that I'd never watch it and ruin one of my very fav movies.
