So I'm watching TV with my 29 year old son and a commercial comes on with a bar full of people
singing "Sweet Caroline", I looked at him and said that songs 50 years old, how do they all know that?
He had this look on his face and said Dad, they sing that in bars all over town.
Really? They didn't do that "stuff" at the bars I used to go to. It's a catchy tune!
I don't get out much.

“Sweet Caroline” is the theme song for a couple of sports teams, notably the Boston Red Sox, and sung at every home game. I don’t think they’re the only one either. That song, for whatever the reason, is pretty well known, probably because the fans (or bar patrons) can participate in it.

The tradition started in 1997 at Fenway Park, it was a big hit in the 8th inning and it has been used since. Now a lot of places use it. Journey's dont stop believin has the same effect.

One of my favorites is when RedSox fans got rickrolled . . .

Cincinnati Catholic Schools have been doing it at their games longer than that.
It’s slowly spread to many other High Schools and Catholic Schools.

We were at the beach this summer and our resort had a kids/teen dance party with a DJ.

He played Sweet Caroline and all the kids were singing along.
Including our 7,9, and 11 year old.

However they have learned it from riding in the truck with me as I listen to Neil Diamond a lot.

Our local A-ball team, the Alaska Goldpanners here in Fairbanks, has been playing it during the 7th inning stretch since the 1970's.

Another one that’s popular at sporting events, for some unknown reason, is a song by “the killers”. I don’t know the song’s name, but apparently it’s about the singer’s girlfriend cheating on him.

WVU crowds sing it at the Backyard Brawl, with "Eat shit, Pitt" added after the titular lyrics.

Been doing that since the mid 80s.
