Seriously? I keep looking at the trailers and thinking do I really want to spend the money to watch this in 3D or wait for video? I'll wait for a few more of you guys to watch it before I head to it.

The Mrs and i are huge fans of the fifth element and while I have a desire to watch it, and any Luc Besson creation, the previews do nothing for me. There will be whores, tits and sex.

I haven't seen it yet, and don't want to get ahead of myself, but I was speaking with a friend and we both sort of came away from the conversation hoping this might be the next star wars. I know, it sounds crazy, but you never know. First In Last Out

If you were to see a trailer for The Fifth Element, would you feel the same way? The fifth element had a formulaic ending. I still enjoyed the movie and the comedy scenes. But based on this thread, I will go see valerian. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Got my tickets to go see it later this afternoon. This is where my signature goes.

No worries! |
The previews do nothing to show you what the movie is about, seems like it's all just whiz bang CGI effects. Seriously, can anyone that hasn't seen it tell me what the movie is about? Also, I don't know what it is but Cara Delevengne just creeps me out. No idea what it is, she's just off putting to me.

It's the eyebrows. They're too perfect, but wrong somehow. I feel the same way about Anna Kendrick and her teeth, they just don't look right. My theory is they're robots.

Being a Sci-Fi dilettante, I committed to seeing it months ago. It was a decent summer CG-effects-based flick. The dialog wasn't compelling and none of the characters had much depth, IMO, except maybe Rhianna's Bubble. Valerian seemed more like an overgrown horny 14 year old than a serious special agent, but I never read the comic so I don't know if that's an artifact of the original author, or something that got lost in the translation to film. Maybe the character's immaturity plays better in the comics and translates better to swashbuckling in that format. I found it distracting, but not fatally so. Cara Delevingne wasn't a draw for me. I've never seen what the fuss was about her. Ok, so she has bushy eyebrows. Yeah. Luckily, her character's arc did not seem to be very demanding either. I don't think I'd pan it as bad as most reviews I've read, but I'd concede it is a splash-&-dash film. You're not going to be reconsidering how you see the world after you watch this film, but you may be mildly entertained for the time you're in the theater.

I'm seeing this tomorrow...I'm hoping for a really good time, but as always I'm prepared for some disappointment. I well remember the way The 5th Element was panned when it first came out, and now it's considered a classic, so anything can happen. The Valerian comic came out with dozens of episodes/stories, so if this movie really works it could the basis of a new franchise. It would be nice to see something that isn't stuck in Star Wars, Star Trek and the Marvel/DC universes...

I saw Fifth Element a few months ago and the trailer. Valerian seemed to be too busy and cluttered. "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye". I’m interested in seeing it but not enough to pay full price. I’ll just wait for Netflix.

eh, Luc Besson's films are interesting in the 1st and 2nd acts, but usually he shits the bed in the 3rd. 5th element, Lucy, etc. It's like he starts doing thumb thick rails of coke and loses focus. A well balanced breakfast being necessary to the start of a healthy day, the right of the people to keep and eat food shall not be infringed.

I watched it last weekend... meh It just felt like I was watching Avatar again. Tall slender blue aliens living at peace with nature until humans come along and fuck it up for them. This is where my signature goes.

Just saw it. Visually a treat, but story-wise, a muddled mess. The interplay of virtual reality near the beginning with a wide open space was actually pretty cool. Felt like it was written by committee with a way too much Avatar vibe. I actually liked Laureline. Thought her character would be weaker to Valerian's weak. As someone else noted, he looked like a 16 YO kid. And his accent was like he was channeling Keanu Reeves in Matrix. Got old fast. Ethan Hawk was wasted in that tiny role.
