Even I did not agree with his leftist politics, he was not of the type of the current batch of loud obnoxious Hollywood cretins, he was a lot quieter, and mostly let his work do the talking.
But I did appreciate his work in films like Butch Cassidy and especially The Sting, two great movies I still watch occasionally. He is from a bygone era of 70s stars like Newman, Bronson, Reynolds, Eastwood, etc, and these guys are disappearing.

One of my favorite movies of his, was Sneakers (1992). I loved the playful seriousness of it, the music, and it has really held up over time. It was also one of River Phoenix last movies.

I was in the Dominican Republic when Redford was filming Havana. I didn't make the Extra list. Reading his Wiki, we both had a lot in common at my first year at CU Boulder in the days of 3.2 beer but I somehow managed to graduate. What a life. Rest In Peace.
My wife and I just recently re-watched The Horse Whisperer with a young Scarlett Johansson, and Kirsten Thomas. That’s a pretty good movie. In spite of the presence of J Fonda, The Electric Horseman with Willie Nelson is a good movie too. Redford talking about the horse he is accused of stealing is one of my favorite scenes.

This is one of the greatest scenes in film history (IMO of course, which is worth what you paid for it).
The fact that that film did not win an Oscar (even back in those days) is a travesty. I wish I had the silver tongue to describe the emotion in the scene, but you know it when you watch it.
Damn.
We've all got to go, and I won't use a useless platitude like "rest in peace" or "he had a good run". He had an amazing life, like many. I admire the man and the work he did on conservation (prior to going greenie, of course).
Fare well Mr. Redford. You done well. Say hello to my mom up there. She had a huge crush on you. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Gustofer,

It doesn’t seem that long ago I saw this with my kids on the IMAX screen at MOSI in Tampa:
A few years later, we actually visited one of the national parks featured and I could have sworn I had been there before. It took me 30 minutes to realize it was the IMAX movie I was remembering.
I’m fairly sure it’s the last thing I remember Robert Redford doing. I don’t remember not enjoying any of the movies he’s been in. 89 is a good run.
