Edge seeking Sharp blade! |
This album is supposedly Ian Anderson's reaction to a music critic calling "Aqua Lung" a concept album. He seemingly attempted to say: "I'll show you a concept album!" It is one song amazingly musically divided by having to flip it. Ian Anderson apparently wrote it in two weeks, writing in the mornings, and rehearsing with the band in the afternoons, then recorded it in two weeks. I think it is pure genius, and amazing that he was able to get the sounds in 1971. I saw Jethro Tull in 1972, and being an 17 year old punk kid, of course expected to hear the band sound just like the record and play "Aqua Lung." Instead the new "Thick as a Brick" was prominent, I didn't know what hit me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9z6WCKlhsw

Aqualung and Thick as a Brick are the two Tull albums I play nowadays. Excellent records. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

Another big fan of Tull. Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play are still my favorites. "But, as luck would have it, he stood up. He caught that chunk of lead." I saw the Thick As A Brick tour. It started with all the lights going out. Then the music started and it stayed black for a few minutes. Then BOOM! Brilliant stage lighting.

Get my pies outta the oven! |
Jethro Tull is still one of my favorite bands, I was listening in the late 80’s and 90’s when people my age thought that music was old fashioned “classic rock” but I thought they were awesome and still do. Saw them: 1989: Philadelphia 1992: Frankfurt, Germany 1993: Frankfurt, Germany The 1992 concert was at the Frankfurt Old Opera House and they recorded songs along the way on the tour and released a live album, I was there that night when this was recorded (I like to think you can hear me clapping and cheering in the background)

All great LPs but my first love was the Benefit album. ****************************************************************************** Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet . . .

Big fan too. Saw them a few times. Still listen to Bursting out and carry it in my phone always. Saw the tour where it was recorded too. Enjoyed Anderson’s voice in DSOTM by Billy Sherwood and friends. Remember, Xmas Spirit is not what you drink! 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

Thick as a Brick was released on 3 March 1972. Took a bit before the album was available. Bought it finally a few days before attending the Jethro Tull concert at Syracuse University's Manley Field House on 16 April 1972. It was memorable not only for the great performance of their music but the craziness enjoyed with my gal before and after the concert. It was 24 hours for the ages! I saw them at Kansas City Municipal Auditorium in June of 1972. I've seen the playlist for this concert and matching memory, all of Thick as a Brick was played first. I took a tanned lovely on my 1972 CB350 Honda. I was impressed when she pulled a joint out of her panties, and the process of retrieving it was a bit of show.

Let’s compare notes. I remember two things from the concert. They played the song, “Thick as a Brick” for 35 or 40 minutes to open the show, then Ian Anderson stepped up to the mic, “And now for our second number…” Later in the show, a phone, sitting on a grand piano onstage starts ringing. They stop playing and look over at the phone, along with the entire crowd in the coliseum. A man in a full wetsuit, mask and flippers walks onto the stage, answers the phone, hangs up, then flip-flops off the stage. Great show, and of course they did a couple from Aqualung too, notably the title track. _______________________________________________________ despite them

For the long time Jethro Tull fan here is a bit of trivia for you, my collection of JT stuff I still have, The 8 tracks are long gone. The ticket stubs are from 1973, 75 and 76. Another Tull fan here. Thick as a Brick is my favorite album from them followed by Songs from The Wood. I saw them perform at the municipal auditorium in either '77 or '78. I remember being very impressed by their performance. "Lion Heart is all heart, Smarty Jones is all out!!!"
