(I could have sworn there was a previous thread from when the teaser trailer debuted 3 months ago, but I couldn't find it.) I'm looking forward to it. I would like to Sam & Quorra from Tron Legacy to have a part in it, but it appears they do not, unless a the studio is hiding their roles. At least Jeff Bridges/Flynn is back.

| I swear I had something for this |
I've never seen anything this director has done including Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales or Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, but since Joseph Kosinski didn't return as director and I can't stand Jared Leto unless he gets a David Fincher death/mutilation, this is going into the "wait and see" pile. I will be buying the NIN soundtrack, however.

| Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
I see Flynn, but do not see Tron? How can you have a movie named Tron, but not have Tron in it? But a few things. How come the guy who creates the replicants is now a . . . replicant? (see what I did there) also, where is Quorra and Sam? But I will see it just to hear the NIN soundtrack. This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it. -Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Joshua Painter Played by Senator Fred Thompson

^ Someone didn't read beyond iron chef's post... I still haven't seen it. I guess I'll just wait for it to be released to streaming. ugh. don't spend your $$ to watch it in theaters. Just let it die now. Disney sucks. I got taken to it so I didn't spend any money but I still want a refund of my time. It's leaves away everything setup in Legacy. They should've just called this movie Ares and say it takes place in the Tron universe. Not minority enough!

I wish more movies would take the approach of "in the universe". I think Prometheus would have done better as a quick example. I thought about taking the kids for a 4dx showing but paying over $100 for a rollercoaster with a questionable story seemed like a bad choice.

Can anyone explain Tron to me? Never understood the interesting part beyond the fancy color pallete and the Metropolis aesthetics. 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

That is exactly why the first movie made such a big splash. They did sfx unlike any others up to that point. The look of the film was unique (I believe they shot in black and white and then went in and manually painted over the film cells to give the bright 'Tron lines'). I'm not sure if anybody really ENJOYED the first movie, or if it was all about the SFX. I seem to recall the buzz in the 1980s was just over the wild SFX. Honestly, I think it's boring as crap. The plot seems that this guy needs proof somebody stole his video game idea, and he goes INTO the computer world (like this was the 80s and NOBODY except the geeks knew how computers worked) and after some shenanigans, he defeats the Master Control Program (the CPU?) with the help of Tron (a anti-virus program in human form?) and gets a print-out proving he 'owns' the intellectual property of the best-selling arcade console in the country. The plot stunk back then (IMO, of course), and I don't think it aged well at all. I only browse this movie for nostalgia anymore. Now, I really enjoyed Tron: Legacy, and I do re-watch it from time to time. I just watched it again this past weekend. I was still marveling how STUNNING the visuals were (this is on my relatively modest 65" screen - it was AMAZING in the theater). It was a truly beautiful movie. I saw it in the theater when it came out (I was deployed to Qatar at the time (Al Udeid Air Base), so it's part of my Deployment Memories (TM) from that era). I didn't really understand the ending, to be honest. Sure, this girl was supposed to 'revolutionize science, religion, technology, medicine, etc," but they never explained how. I didn't ever watch the animated series they made, so maybe it's explained there, but I don't know. The CGI making Jeff Bridges look 40 yrs younger didn't age that well, but it's easy to over-look since it's such a beautiful movie. This new one just doesn't look good. I don't think there was every any demand for a Tron spin-off. It's like they were going through their catalog of old movies, desperately looking for something they can remake or slap a "Part II" onto the end, and somebody said "Hey, how about another Tron movie?" as somebody took a drag on their joint and said "Far out, man." Discount ticket day, so we caught this movie. It is Tron…the first two movies didn’t stir that many brain cells while watching it, nor does this iteration. But, after seeing other reviews I didn’t have high expectations. And if you keep expectations low, you too can enjoy this movie for what it is…fun, and made for anyone who thought the other Tron films were fun. The vehicles from Legacy were about the only part kept in Ares, and this movie largely referenced Jeff Bridges’ character, life, and actions from the first Tron. There were quite a few 80’s references, and if you don’t care for the actors it is still worth $5 to close your eyes and enjoy the soundtrack. NIN’s songs were enjoyable, along with just the techno or synth/bass pieces. I would be surprised if this isn’t on Disney+ around Thanksgiving, but if you enjoy the Tron universe at all and leave your brain at the door, Ares is a fun $5 movie.

My teenage son and I saw it on opening day. We were both disappointed early in the movie. As the movie wore on, the disappointment grew. We purposely watched the IMAX 3D version for visual spectacle. This movie is barely related to the first two. Ares was a major disappointment. This movie was some type of drama but not at all what it should have been. When we were walking out of the theater, my son said "Dad, I'm surprised you stayed awake for the entire movie". Roger
