It was one of those days when I just needed to focus on something totally mindless. Bad guy or good guy, the movie explores the mystery of Mark Taffin. As a 1988 movie made in Ireland, the filmography was of limited excitement. The stunts were weakly performed. The fight scenes were amateurish, with multiple breakaway tables in one bar fight. The love interest was lovely. The love developed was carnal at best. The evil to be vanquished was sadly a consortium who wanted to take advantage of nice people and destroy their town, with (shock) environmental emissions from a chemical plant. Not the most compelling "bad guy" and yet somewhat like that Clint Eastwood classic where the gang wanted to take over the little town, or the mine, or... I was quite surprised at the acting of Pierce Brosnan. This movie was after Remington Steele, and before James Bond. Having seen him in those movies, as well as Mamma Mia! and The Thomas Crown Affair and Fast Charlie, I expected more from Mark Taffin. I suppose that there is some dynamic interplay between script, director, and overall film budget (sets, equipment, costumes, etc.) Maybe he just was having an off post-Steele period? Well, the bad guy who was really a good guy did manage to overcome the really bad people. And, he did get all the money and the pretty blonde bartender. So, the world remains as it should be today. ------- Trying to simplify my life...

One of Brosnan's early movies that I really enjoyed was The Fourth Protocol starring Michael Caine. _________________________ OH, Bonnie McMurray!

Check him out in the Mobland series. I see it as some of his best work. He an Helen Mirren are a psycho mob family couple. "We're all travelers in this world. From the sweet grass to the packing house. Birth 'til death. We travel between the eternities."
