I started watching the French Canadian police series "19-2" a few days ago on Netflix and thought it's pretty good. The characters are fairly realistic as to personalities, interesting and well played, but without exception leading messed up personal lives. When watching law enforcement portrayals produced in other countries, it needs to be kept in mind that these shows reflect the cultures of these regions and that their cultures may differ quite a bit from our own, just like agencies such as NYPD differ from LAPD. While I think using "The Wire" (IMHO the best police drama EVER) as a benchmark might set the bar too high, using the development of plot and characters in the first season to establish a "reality" of this sector of Montreal's PD lays an essential groundwork for viewers. What follows in the first episode of 19-2's second season is both extremely realistic and INTENSE! This is definitely viewing for adults only, but further spoilers from me. Without spoilers, I've used an extended clip of the 1st episode of the 2nd season during some of the classes I teach, to help set the mood at the start of the class.

Any chance you can edit your response to remove the details about nature of the incident? I'm just thinking we might be doing members a disservice by providing more spoilers than necessary. I believe it helps viewers to have a good idea about the officers' individuality (that comes with seeing Season One), before getting smacked with what occurs in this episode. Your choice of course. I think your use of the episode for training purposes is a good idea and one I'd probably use while I was a supervisor too. Different but similar if that makes sense is Unforgotten on Amazon I am in the middle of season 2 of I think 5. Set in London, the premise in each season is that skeletal remains several decades old are discovered and determined to be due to murder. A police DCI and DI lead a team of detectives to investigate. A group of about five characters are part of the story, one of whom is the murderer. Kind of a bit of Agatha Christie whodunnit. So far I think its well done and entertaining.

Thanks for the tip! Binged the first three episodes. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.
