So I saw the trailer of Backrooms recently and was intrigued by it considering how many views it had, 15 million as of posting. I have to admit I have had nightmares of being lost in such myself and thus it has caught my interest. Certainly not the typical horror type movie. The links below gives some more info on the background of the movie.

https://screenrant.com/a24-backrooms-horror-trailer/

"...The Backrooms began as an Internet urban legend in 2019, when an anonymous user on 4chan posted an image of what seemed like endlessly empty rooms made up of dividing walls and carpeting. The post included claims that the Backrooms are a dimension between dimensions accessed by falling (or no-clipping) through reality, typically on accident...."

"What Are The Backrooms, Exactly?
The Backrooms are an endless maze of empty rooms that resemble an office or storage space, illuminated by harsh, fluorescent light and decorated from floor to ceiling in sickly yellow.

There is no location for the Backrooms—it’s a kind of purgatory that exists outside of space and time, accessed by “no-clipping” through the floor or wall, as though reality contains glitchy, unstable corners, like a video game.

Anyone can fall in and find themselves trapped, unable to escape. The space is devoid of human life, but inhabited by unseen entities that give the unfortunate visitor the feeling that they are being watched or followed....."

I'm going to see this one. I know about the backrooms thing. Although I think it's sheer fantasy, I find it oddly intriguing. Reminds me of the Maze Runner movies.

Its on my list of things I might actually see in theaters. Though part of me wonders why I am paying to creep myself out.

Follow up. I liked it quite a bit and would like to watch it again. Its very well acted by our main characters. I have not looked into the lore at all before watching it besides seeing the backrooms on the preview screen on YouTube but its one of those things that makes you more curious and want to talk about it.

Without spoilers I would say its far more psychological than I expected, the backrooms are more of the setting than the discussion of the film. Kind of reminds me of a less gory Annihilation, but with similar themes.

My kids want to see it because of the Escape the Backrooms game that seems to be pretty popular among the kiddos. Seems like the worst of it would be uses of "fuck", so they can handle that. Hell, they hear much worse at school anyway.

Yay, parenting!

There's language, but it certainly matches what you are seeing on screen. Nothing gratuitous, and it doesn't seem to be trying too hard to just throw curses out there, but of course, everyone's limit is different.

I dont think theres anything kids cant see but I think a lot of the concepts the movie discusses are over their heads, depending on their ages.

Saw it with my brother and we both enjoyed it. Solid movie, solid acting, and some very cool concepts and production. Worth a watch for most.

So this 20 year old YouTuber kid's movie in it's debut weekend
outperformed the Star Wars Mandalorian and Grogu movie in it's week 2.

I think that says a lot about this kid, and it says a lot about Disney screwing up the Star Wars franchise.

There's a 2nd YouTuber movie Obsession that also beat Star Wars. I was 10 when the first Star Wars movie came out and it's the best movie experience I'll ever have in my life but I don't go to the theaters and see the spinoffs.

Congrats to the new kids for actually pulling new kids into the theater.

Thanks for the comments. I probably won't be seeing this at the theater but certainly want to watch it when it gets to streaming.

We have a cheap seats theater very close to us but wife always wants popcorn and soda so even there it is getting close to $30 for that for the two of us.

Just saw it. It's more of a psychological puzzle than a sci-fi horror, but done well. Acting is good. Some graphic violence and a lot of just plain weird stuff.
