A tight field to choose from, but: Linda Ronstadt.

About 20 seconds of no sound at the beginning.

Linda Ronstadt is certainly a close second, and she’s singing background on this recording

Easy choice for me- Laura Nyro.

My favorite female singer and songwriter, she greatly influenced guys like Donald Fagen/Walter Becker, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, Elton John, Elvis Costello, etc. Largely unknown to the masses, artists that covered her songs are far more successful (Linda Ronstadt, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, etc). This one was covered by the 5th Dimension, a huge hit for them. But the original is far better, and she not only sings lead, but all of the background vocals as well.

A lot to choose from, but I'll go with Patty Smyth, from Scandal.

That is a tough question. There are a lot of good female singers. But if I had to pick one, it would be Janis Joplin.

It is tough to pick one. Carole King comes to mind first. Always liked her doing 'City Streets' with Eric Clapton on guitar behind her.

I like all kinds of music and run the gamut from metal to enya to snoop dog. All that said I really like Allison Krauss.

This one. In fact, I see her live in April.

All-time: Patsy Cline. I was bare old enough to be classified a tyke when she died, but her singing voice is as harmonically perfect as it comes, at least to me. Eva Cassidy was one whose voice was of such magnificence that I could listen to for hours. Another singer whose voice I taken a tremendous liking to is a bit more alive: Rumer.

Lately I have been listening to Lucy Thomas. Her Sister and Mother have great pipes, too. LeAnn Rimes comes damn close to Patsy Cline. Her rendition of Blue is pretty good. And for Geezer Rock: Grace Slick.

Diana Ross comes to mind. The first, pre-diva albums from mariah carey and whitney houston.
