{realize Netflix is out of favor now, but under increasing pressure to remove controversial content. There's a separate thread for that already} Our IT director caught this and thought it was interesting. Haven't seen it yet, have it on list. Wired review; Hate Social Media? The guy behind the guy |
Social media is allowed to grow because people are so willing to throw away their own privacy. I never got into social media even though I was the prime age when it hit. I was in my early 20's when My Space hit big. All of my friends had it. I didn't, for two reasons: 1) I felt it odd that I could post a message for all to hear. I honestly didn't feel I had anything that profound to say. 2) I felt it creepy watching my friends look at pics of our other friends that were posted. It felt like inviting voyeurism to me. And then it was even more creepy to be looking at pics. That was almost 20 years ago. I wasn't until recent years when I realized how angry social media made everyone I know who uses it. You can see it all day on twitter. You've got two asshats calling each other "stupid" or "racists" or "communists," it goes on ad nauseam every single day, all day. Why on earth do I want a piece of that toxic pie? It's not like these mental midgets shouting back and forth at each other are going to change each other's' minds. All they do is both walk away angry and wasted part of their day. Eventually I think the invasion of privacy will get so bad that people finally wake up. Also, once they stop their addiction, they'll realize how miserable it made them. I mean, look at the comments section to any news story, people shouting at each other. what a colossal waste of time. I think social media and the cancel culture that has ingrained itself into it will eventually burn itself out. Our kids are not allowed to have any social media. What they do once they are no longer under our roof I cannot control, but I'm in hopes they see it for the cancer it is and avoid it after heading off to college. My sister allows her 9 year old to be on tik Tok and post things. It floors me, but I keep my opinion to myself. This kid shows what these girls are doing on tik tok. They are whoring themselves out for stupid and completely worthless "likes." You've failed miserably as a parent when your child finds these "likes" as somehow validating them. great vid on tik Tok's ridiculousness

Thank you Very little |
It should be called Anti-Social Media, it's converted people into zombies to Amazon, E-Bay, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Tik-Tok, and the people running these companies work hard to keep you tied to the little digital box in your hand. I have a buddy that is addicted to harassing liberals on social media, to the extent that he has fake emails, fake FB profiles, so they can't get to him. I can make him pick his phone up anytime I want by sending him a text, he can't hold off, he has to know what that little red dot brings him immediately, and he's in his 60's ..

Watched it tonight. Worth a watch. Strive to live your life so when you wake up in the morning and your feet hit the floor, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up."

Saw this last weekend. Most of it I have been aware of for quite a while. The obvious take-aways: If you are getting it for free, there's a reason. You don't use it, it uses you. Worth watching with an open mind. Cheers~

My wife and I watched it. I think it is worth watching. I suspect most of us know it, but we choose to ignore the reality, primarily because of the convenience. Niech Zyje P-220 Steve
