Unapologetic Old School Curmudgeon |
Need a new series, something in the fantasy realm. I much prefer something where the whole series is done already or there are enough in the series to keep you going a while. I like Weeks, Sanderson, Salvatore, Abercrombie, etc. Large epic 2000 page books don't scare me, I like something you can get lost in a while. Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

Glenn Cook's Black Company series. It has been described as the Vietnam war on drugs. If you like sci-fi then David Drake's Hammer's Slammers. "I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared." Thomas Jefferson

Fighting the good fight |
Heavy, mind-altering drugs. Not just a little weed. I found that series pretty hard to get into, but once I did get into it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Be prepared for a period of confusion, though. They basically drop you right into the middle of the story, and don't bother to hold your hand while you try to get oriented and figure out just what in the hell is going on.

I like Naomi Novik's "Temeraire" series - the Napoleanic War fought with dragons. Eight books so far. "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you was?" - Satchel Paige

There was a mechanized unit I believe in the Iraq War that flew the Black Company banner. I have the heart of a lion.......and a lifetime ban from the Toronto Zoo.- Unknown

Stephen king is a rabid anti gunner. I have no wish to give him my money.
The first book was okay. Books 2,3,4 were an excellent reason for commiting suicide.

You might want to check out F Paul Wilson. The repairman Jack series. It's modern day setting but basically a light vs dark main storyline. About 10 books in the series if I remember correctly. Ken S

How about the "Dragonriders of Pern" series by Anne McCraffey? Somewhere around 24 books so far. For space opera, the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

For some reason i thought he put weber in his list of authors, which is why i did not list him. For modern day fantasy. Larry Correia and Mike Kupari's: Dead Six is a kick ass trilogy. Just a good solid A of a duet if you will.

Xenocide (3rd book) dragged on a bit, but Speaker for the Dead (2nd) & Children of the Mind (4th) I think flowed better. The Shadow series definitely has a better pace & occurs directly after Ender's Game/Shadow. The Enemy's gate is down.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. The first book is called Wizard's First Rule. For me, this was the book that really turned me on to this genre. It's still one of my favorites because it doesn't read like a Dungeons and Dragons manual. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Aeteocles,

And I know you only wanted to hear about series that are already finished... But Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles is in it's 2nd book of a planned trilogy. The first book, The Name of the Wind, is magnificent.
